GOOD MORNING...IT'S FRIDAY!
The week has been a blur. Yesterday, I would have posted Wednesday night country, if NOT for Char's post.

Yesterday morning...the thermometer read 67 degrees when I ventured out of the driveway without a coat, and my favorite rose colored sunglasses. It was sunny, warm, and light traffic headed west on the Ohio Turnpike, a road warrior's dream.
I WAS making great time, Toledo was only two exits away.
Good Lord...I had time for Starbucks at the turnpike plaza. Kibitzing with all the other suits waiting in line for the best coffee known to mankind...I did NOT see the black clouds rolling in, the temp dropped 30 degrees in 20 minutes. I merged right into torrential rain mixed with sleet and hail. OMG...it was horrendous, and the trip back was worse! The outpouring from the sky let up a little, but the fog, wind, pooled water on the roadway and truck splash. Winter is here...

Funny thing is I looked up who was where this morning...even wrote it down. How does an entire day get away from me you ask?

Let's see...being married to a musician, followed by domestic responsibilities, a to-do list that NEVER ends and the required Saturday mid-afternoon nap.

Tonight we did NOT see;
Black River Band @ The Dog House
Conestoga @ Army/Navy
Curtis Brothers @ The Lamplighter
Kentucky Thunder @ ACE's
Lawless @ Stampers
Marshall Law @ Czonka's
Relentless @ The Shamrock
Silver Spur @ Wadsworth Eagles
Vicious Cycle @ Sheehan's

Mr. Webster and I went to see BOND...James Bond.
Casino Royale follows the original novel very closely, and is worth seeing. OH...and the NEW Bond, Daniel Craig, is "easy on the eyes" and make Roger, Sean and Pierce look pretty lame.

Willoughby Brewing Co. has NOT updated their entertainment schedule for December. Good Luck to who ever is there tonight...it's been tough gig for most bands due to paltry attendance.

The GAC Country Music Christmas Tour will feature Deana Carter, Julie Roberts, Blue County and Steve Azar...and NOW Bucky Covington.

8:24 PM
Blogger jdh said...

Web, Web, Web...

I have to correct you on this one. Willoughby's been pretty good for most of the bands according to the club and when I'm there to see it. It's a great place that is growing into country music slowly, but very steadily.

Just thought I'd chime in on that.

Everyone plays until 11:30 at Willoughby now. They noticed that it was an early crowd, so unlike a lot of clubs they changed the format a little. The crowd gets there around 6:30/7:00 for a dance lesson and starts to disperse gradually starting at 10:30. I wish more clubs would format around their crowds. Friday and Saturday are gimme's for establishments. The rest of the week is hit or miss but most places don't even bother to look at the fact that crowds are thin by 1am on a work/school night.

Is everybody ready for Christmas?

Oooops, I mean "The Holidays"! (LOL)

I agree...the smoking ban was not the best thought out legislation.
I think we should launch our own petition to repeal/modify the law.
YOU in?

Fat Fish Blue is NOT exactly a smokers haven...maybe less than half. What I noticed was people became restless after they ate...they wanted a cigarette.
Fat Fish lost a bundle of money last night.
The group of "bachelorette" girls were reluctant to stand 20 feet from the club "dressed to the nines" in the downtown winter chill on Ontario at 10:30 PM. They voted to take their hummer stretch limo to a liquor store and continue the party where they could smoke...at home! In a blink of an eye 18 women with plenty of cash for pretty drinks with fruit hailed their ride and were GONE.

For the smokers amongst us....
I found out last night that Ace's is not planning on pulling the ashtrays til after the first of the year, if then. All the confusion regarding enforcement has most establishments re-thinking their bans. I still don't understand why I can't smoke while working in an auto parts store. Surely gas fumes, burning rubber (and who knows what else) from the machine shop, and the general aroma of the room CAN'T be better than my cigarette!!

8:34 PM
Blogger Mrs. Webster said...

Well...hot damn, ACE's is still smoking...smart move! Mr. Webster has reported that Sheehan's has NOT removed their ashtrays. The two advocate non-smokers there are pitching a fit. Is Fat Boys still smoking? Mr. Webster has a private event at a Hilton after the first of the year, they have confirmed it will be a smoking event. It is very confusing. Molly sent me a great link; Ohio goes smokefree??? this morning.

9:48 PM
Blogger Mrs. Webster said...

I guess the whole idea is to get Ohioans to stop smoking. Probably NOT a bad idea, but some things in life I don't want controlled by the government.

If the majority were really committed to our well being...we would all have decent, affordable health care services, less...MORE toxic airborne toxins than second hand smoke spewing into our environment.

The medical and insurance community/industry have a vested interest in healthier human beings. The ballot initiative to ban smoking was well funded.
There wasn't a whole lot of people or corporate sponsors parading on TV touting the benefits of smoking.

So...in theory I understand the concept. The execution of the idea is...well NOT so good. It feels like a right has been removed. Yes...I understand it was a majority vote. I am accepting of non-smoking establishments, designated smoking areas, and banned smoking in MOST public/work places.

Nightclubs, restaurants, casinos, racetracks, bowling allies, and private clubs should be able to choose to be SMOKING.

ME: It's the right of the business owner and his customers (internal and external) to determine if removal of ashtrays and declaration of NO-SMOKING signage on the front door and above every urinal is the way they want to conduct/maintain their business.

Furthermore, I'll quit when I am ready. I fully support any effort to repeal or modify this piece of crap legislation...

10:47 PM
Blogger Molly said...

You can still smoke at Fat Boys. They're not planning to pull the ashtrays until the law can sucessfully be enforced.

For those of you that follow along routinely. I have been posting on several threads. Some things, in my opinion need to be repeated/reposted or be separated from the most current thread.
BTW; I am thinking about the December 2005 archive. Bet I find some doozies there.

Mr. Webster has been blabbing about FOOT all morning. Sorry, I was NOT at Sheehan's last night to hug ya! Before Christmas...I promise!

I could NOT be puffy this morning and had a bazillion things on the TO-DO list. Saturday night at home has an upside...free time on Sunday afternoon. Gotta head start on the towel and linen laundry last night. One bathroom down...two to go!

Our Christmas tree still isn't out of the basement. I am easily distracted by the boxes of ornaments my children made, and the 25 YO holiday macaroni art.

One of the disadvantages of being "Godfather", elder statesman, or just the old guy, is that I seem to be the one that always brings the sad news.

Friday, December 8, we lost another great friend and musician... Rich Worgull. Rich played lead guitar with me in Sundown & the TCB Band along with his own band Brushfire. He was a true original and lived his life on his terms. After having a quintuple bypass about 15 years ago, he told me "I'm not afraid of dying, I'm afraid of not living!"

Visitations will be Monday December 11. Go to cleveland.com/obits for details.

Good Morning

As far as I can tell, there is no longer Thursday night country. Crazy Rita's was the first to dump "country night", followed by Slim & Chubby's, and most recently the Sly Fox...even Lawless was sent home early.

Less than a year ago...ya could find country every night of the week, except Mondays. What happened? First...the market was flooded with options...maybe even over-kill. Second...the shared country music fan base. Third or First...the economics.
Hopefully, the scene will SPRING back after the winter thaw.

7:14 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

This market is cyclical, just like everything else. I predicted it 6 months ago. The same thing happened when I first started playing. You could gig 5 nights a week and then the bottom dropped out.

I do think the economy and market saturation are the two biggest factors.

I would be looking for changes to come at a few other venues as well. If all that's being talked about comes to fruition, there could be some upset camps out there.

Word of advice to some would be that if you're gonna keep biting the hand that feeds, eventually you will starve. Quite a few hands are ready to pull away after being bitten a couple times.

3:12 PM
Blogger Mrs. Webster said...

So...the answer to the question; "Do I have an opinion about JDH's opinion?"...ah huh.
Sure I do!

NOT sure who is feeding who, or why the snipping continues...it just does. It's safe to say the "L" clash is alive and well.

Can't say that I have first hand knowledge that JDH predicted the market 6 months ago. The message I heard first hand...Lawless would prevail.

It's nice to see Willoughby Brewing trying out a Sat. country night.

Another venue who clearly plays favorites may just want to go all the way and have themselves a "house" band.

The written word can be so easily misconstrued. After a little bit of investigating the "hand-biting" could be venue related.

Web - C'mon, it's not a one man show. It is true that generally the public perceives a band by it's voice, but we do have 5 guys up there.

For the record, we will definitely be back at Willoughby on a Saturday as last night was really good.

Also for the record, the hand and back biting is pretty much being done by one individual from one band. It's such old news. It's been going on for a couple years now and will continue to until he realizes he's just NOT THAT GOOD.

How hard would you think it would be to find nine ladies dancing? Not very...took longer than I thought. Ya see, after eight maids a milking, there are umpteen versions of the song. Lords leaping, ladies dancing, pipers piping and drummers drumming can be any number between 9-12.

It's almost Christmas...I don't wish to engage in mud slinging or hand biting. Yes yes yes, I know I started it. Let's tentatively agree to be pleasant, and peaceful.

I have to agree with JDH and his statement: "just NOT THAT GOOD". I didn't really feel like going far on Sat. night so y'all might guess where I ended up. For one set. Talk about a "monotone" voice! No feeling whatsoever. Just my lowly opinion of course. My computer is down at home and NOW I see I could've went to Blue Moose!! Did NOT know the Curtis Brothers would be there on a Sat. night. I really would have gone for quality, had I known.

Good Morning
WOW...am I glad to find Webster this morning. Webster was lost in space most of the day yesterday.
Did anyone else have trouble logging on?

Sara
I remember when you asked what the "mill" was. You are correct, despite imploring...Webster continues to be read daily by anyone that knows about it. I haven't sent out invitations to blog for weeks. Maybe, I should develop a Christmas card to send to my database. Given the numbers, people are logging on four and five times a day. Wouldn't it be ironic if I actually knew how & had the time to track and identify readers?
WHO WOULD MAKE THAT LIST!

git er done guy
Thanks for joining the "mill". Your post made it four times. I must delete three. Feel free to post the Whisky Bent schedule. As far as I know they do not have a website.

Foot
I only voted once.

Christmas Shoppers
Please support your local businesses. You know... the little guy on the corner who has owned his shop for years. For example: Kentucky Thunder Brad owns Ron Zehl Guitar with stores in Avon and Amherst.
ANYONE ELSE HAVE A SMALL BUSINESS? Let us know!
Also...if you have little ones visiting from the warmer states, you can pick up a gently used snow suit for less than $5 at unique thrift or goodwill.
Please support the charity of your choice during the holidays.
"toys for tots", "coats for kids" are probably the best known and throw your change into the red kettle.

Awwwwww...a trip down memory lane in the archives last night. Last year at this time, the bloggers were engaged in a full throttle food fight, JDH had just implored, Webster was banned from the Lawless group, and the site was "crashing".

Well...we are all still here, by the numbers...we are ALL still here.
Thank you to those of you who sent emails with helpful hints to save the site from crashing. For those of you studying mathematical logic...it's time to change your major.
As usual, there are people who wrote that do not want to be identified, and probably someone who forgot to ask not to be identified....THANK YOU!
Bonnie, Jen, Molly, and Marie3, I am hopeful to utilize all the suggestions offered over the weekend. THANK YOU!
I was reading feverishly, putting up firewalls, republishing the blog, saving the files, backing up my computer and actively putting to use everything I had just read, while the site was crashing or at least my interpretation of crashing. It looks like clevelandcountry.blogspot.com is stable for the time being. I don't have a message for those of you trying to crash the site. "oops"
Me...I am wondering why it was so important to keep the site from crashing. Especially recently!

NEW to the blog
Auditions for the syndicated shows are not being held here. There is no application process available at this site for the Jerry Sprenger show. This is NOT the CaTroom on Rodeo. Perhaps in your zealous pursuit of the last word, you missed the part about no swearing, no references to body types, and that grandma reads the blog. If your grandmother doesn't or wouldn't care if she were alive, then there is a problem. Everyone that posts on this blog can put sentences together, and can articulate their thoughts.

FRIDAY...

Good Morning
Mr. Webster and I are on VACATION...together!
I've been busy in the archives. Too funny, the archives that is.
Also funny is that folks don't seem to recognize a re-post from the archives.

Mr. Hardy and I are NOT engaged in a NEW hissing match. It is ironic that he checks frequently to make sure we are NOT.

Relentless has had to cancel the weekend at the Wild West Saloon due to Rio losing his voice.

Heartland is reorganizing...again.
Stop in at Fat Boy's to see who Buck recruited for this weekend.

Black River Band is still in cyberspace hell.

The Curtis Brothers are on vacation until December 29th.

Lawless will be partying it up at Jewel's Dance Hall tomorrow night with my dear dear friend Roger McCoy from the BULL station formerly known as the home of "Clashing Country".

If you are looking for a COUNTRY New Year's Eve...it's slim pickens and VERY pricey. ACE's is a 140 bucks a couple featuring you know... Shula's/Sheraton has Relentless with several packages, starting at 109 a couple.

Speaking of New Year's Eve...

Is ACE's cancelling their NYE event? That's what I heard tonight. Anyone else care to comment?

My last inquiry regarding ticket availability. I was told "hundreds" were available and that only 16 tickets had been paid for.

New information has surfaced that may have contributed to a possible ACE's NYE cancellation.

My first reaction to ACE's New Year's Eve cancellation...I am being baited. Assurances from reliable sources have led me to run with it.

SIDEBAR
I personally cannot consume $75.00 worth of Laredo or liquor.

10:18 PM
Blogger Molly said...

I think the lack of a Sunday liquor license is an easy excuse/reason for the cancellation. Web: I'm sure you have NOT been baited....there is more to the story than some are willing to admit. However, from what I understand, others are more than willing to share....

Only 16? What a sad, sad way to bring in the New Year....lack of tickets sold says a LOT!

11:50 PM
Blogger Mrs. Webster said...

December 28, 2006

So...I heard the Sunday liquor license story.
HELLO...did ACE's NOT know they did NOT possess a Sunday license?
HELLO...did ACE's NOT see the handwriting on the wall with the flat ticket sales?
HELLO...did ACE's NOT realize they had the SAME band for free the night before?

ACE's and Laredo are still peddling tickets on their websites this morning. Perhaps...it's all a misunderstanding.

9:38 AM
Blogger Mrs. Webster said...

Of course...I have more to say on the subject.

In theory, $75.00 a person for all you can drink on NYE is fair market value...even for Cleveland.

In practicality, ACE's patrons did the math. Hmmmmmmm...I can see Laredo for free on Saturday, drink, dance and go out for breakfast...and have $38.50 left over.

So...what about the 16 people that thought it was a good idea? Last I heard...the tickets would be good for next year. HELLO...the 16 people will demand their money back. PERIOD!

everyones money will be refunded along with giving you free passes to all of our private partys in 2007 including New Years Eve. sorry for any trouble this may cause.

We were told at first that we could sell liquor on sunday as long as it was a private party, Liqour control was just in our bar and told us that we definatly could not do this. So because of this we are cancelling our party. We will have a sunday permit for next year, so this problem will never happen again.

Pitiful poster, i.e., "Toby", I'm not sure that anyone would need to file a complaint about the bar being open because it's always open on Sundays. That wasn't the reason for the cancellation. Aces did think they had their act together if, in fact, they were told they could serve liquor if it was a private party. If that was not the case, it's better they were informed beforehand than to have the party, serve liquor and risk trouble later. Not sure why anyone else would feel the need to "file a complaint" but I guess it's just your way of trying to put the blame on someone else. But your most comical line was "Its just too bad they ruined the night for a lot of other people instead". A lot? 16?? That's a family gathering, not a party.

Happy New Year's Eve eve...

ME: I am on my fifth cup of coffee, and have been dabbling with the "archive" project. Keep in mind, the first thread is over 400 pages long...even with all the deletes.

I am still trying to figure out how to replace the first thread with a secured version.

Right now...it looks like it will be one post with all the bloggers comments. Ideally, it should be in calendar order. I don't want the original thread in the middle of the blog.

It is NOT often that I disagree with rubyking. He's a "LEFTIE" brother, and a peaceful Godly man.
I don't wish to "target" or "degrade" him.

timj, on the other hand, has earned the ridicule, and provoked the backlash. With that said...timj had the decency to apologise. A real thoughtful apology...not some lame excuse for deplorable behavior.

It is doubtful, in my opinion, that "readers" are intimidated by cynicism. They are fearful of the truth.

If "readers" are intimidated by what one woman has to say, ya gotta wonder what their quality of life is. We blogged on without them...and will continue to do so.

Also...I would be remiss if I did NOT mention the cultural and political divide that permeates every community including Cleveland country blogspot.

I adopted "Not Ready to Make Nice" as a personal anthem in April.

I am Not Ready to Make Nice
I am not ready to back down...
I am not ready to do what you think I should...
Forgive sounds good, forgot not sure I could.
They say time heals everything.
I am still waiting...

If you are of the belief that my OP/ED words in 2006 on diversity, The Dixie Chicks, Frank, Laredo, Lawless, the war, the "stay the course" President, my Clear Channel disdain, FOX..., BULL bull, retarded Google BOT, Blue Moose/toilet water in the kitchen, Saddle Ridge/NOT nice to country, and ACE's/bring your kids mentality did NOT impact Cleveland country and the blogspot...raise your hands.

Great...we can all agree on something.

A MySpace Bulletin from The Harley Cowboy, promoting Relentless at Shula's in Independence.

Relentless is one of my favorites. Honest to GOD...better than Lawless.

We've added a new option just for those folks that are not looking for a hotel room or dinner... that just want to come and party and enjoy a great band! For only $30 you get admission after 9pm - appetizers and dessert - party favors - and a champagne toast! And of course there is TONY RIO AND RELENTLESS for the night!! How cool is that?! And for those that would like.. you can take the ELEVATOR HOME after the party... to the Doubletree Hotel!!

The very last day of 2006.

It is NOT my intent to engage in a war of the words directly with rubyking.
We disagree...we really disagree.
I will tell ya why...shortly.

The blog is being fussy.
I just lost a well thought out, accurate, historical re-hash of the Websters and Laredo "hoop-la" for the "readers" mid-afternoon entertainment.

Blogger Mrs. Webster said...

So much for mid-afternoon entertainment. The "hoop-la" will have to wait until NEXT YEAR!
The thing about New Year's Eve is, it's all day affair getting ready...at least it is for me.

I really cannot concern myself with the transgressions of 2006 while BDG, shaving, and nail polishing.

I have decided on an outfit, mix/match old/new. It's going to be long night...comfort is the key.
Mr. Webster and I do match, it wasn't on purpose...it just happens.

ALMOST ready to head downtown to Fat Fish Blue...Swamp Boogie Band and crabcakes for two.

Happy New Year to YOU and YOURS!

As everyone has stated on this blog, New Years Eve was cancelled at Aces. I see a number of different reasons that you people have posted. If you were to look on our website, we have posted the truth about why it was cancelled. The number of tickets sold was not an issue. Anyone that knows our bar, knows that EVERYTIME Laredo is at Aces, we have a full house. We try to accomadate everyone at ACES. It is unfortunate that we are not able to please everyone. We try our best and we address all complaints and concerns. At no time do we, as owners, hide behind the scenes. There WAS a complaint made to liquor control about our news years eve party. I, personally, spoke to the agent that was going to be here that day. I am not 100% sure if it was someone from this site or not, but the person that called, was bragging to a bartender at the Icehouse about doing it. They said that they did it because they did not like the band that was playing here that night. It is sad that someone would try to hurt someone else because of some differences with a third party. In high school, immature kids used to do that same thing. When it was out in the open that they had done that, they got what was coming to them. Everyone on here claims to love country music. I dont believe that is true. If everyone did, they would not spend so much time bashing a band. I have noticed that the majority of the country people that come into my place are good people. We try to provide a nice place for GOOD people to enjoy themselves. Unfortunately, sometimes there are bad apples in the bunch. Everything that we do at ACES is done in the interest of our customers. Does anyone think that we let the kids come in here because we were making money off of them? No, the kids did not cause problems, so we did not feel the need to make them leave. One person on this blog said something smart when they said that "you only here one side of the story". Now you have heard both sides. I am curious to see what the comments on this blog would have been if it was one of the bands that you guys like. We like to hear views from our patrons, and try to figure out ways to make things better at our club. Frankly speaking though, Anyone that dislikes our bar enough to talk bad about it, does not need to come here. Why on earth would you want to come to a place that you talk Sh!t about? If you are a true fan of country music, there are other places that have it, even when your favorite band is playing at ACES. To anyone on this that is a true country fan, Happy New Year. See you in 2007.

Copied and pasted from the ACE's website.

New Years Eve Party Has Been Cancelled
everyones money will be refunded along with giving you free passes to all of our private partys in 2007 including New Years Eve. sorry for any trouble this may cause.

We were told at first that we could sell liquor on sunday as long as it was a private party, Liqour control was just in our bar and told us that we definatly could not do this. So because of this we are cancelling our party. We will have a sunday permit for next year, so this problem will never happen again.

The situation sucks for ACE's...
How much money has ACE's lost/invested on the non-event?
ACE's was of the belief they could have their NYE event.
NOT sure about how they obtained, to whom they spoke with or the accuracy of the information regarding a Sunday event.

The Dusty Armadillo is CLOSED for New Year's Eve...it makes sense now.

The Icehouse bartender is your source to insinuate that "someone" from the blog made the complaint.

I don't understand the part about you spoke to the person that day. What day? Did liquor control tell you there was a complaint or did ya hear it from someone who heard from someone that blogged it somewhere, and then told their MySpace friends?

A majority of the posts regarding ACE's are VERY VERY VERY positive.
We love the place.

So...ya are just here to tell us that it didn't matter that you only sold 16 tickets to your event, and that you love Laredo.

The blog has supported your venue every single week since ya opened. Ya've been linked, and a featured logo on the front of the blog 17 times.

Be glad you are NOT the Blue Moose...I'm still bitching about toilet water in their kitchen.

Happy New Year to everyone!

Just an FYI - if you see me at a gig and blatantly refuse to speak to me, don't go running to Jim B. to whine about what a terrible, mean person I am. Ya know who you are! If you have an issue with me, please be sure to be a man and take it up with ME. Otherwise, keep it to yourself instead of acting like a child.

I also didn't get the point of Rossi's post. I thought their explanation on the website pretty much summed it up.

The thought of the day...is something I have said over and over.
The "truth" always takes longer.
Be patient, the truth will surface...eventually.

This morning, I received an email from a reader that stated they did NOT know WHO to believe.

The idea of who to believe, perplexed me for 28 miles.
Why? ...cause I have told the truth.
