timj and webster are indeed tired and old. i really thought this was a joke when i heard that people we've never met were putting down the band on this site. hard to believe that some cleveland bands would rather throw stones instead of trade gigs. corporate america buddies? you're attempting to insult people you know nothing about. call any of us at 10 a.m. and i can promise you that you'll hear a groggy voice on the other line. roger is far more polite than i am congratulating you on playing other people's songs. could we play "rose colored glasses"? the real question is why would we play "rose colored glasses" when we can play our own tunes. keep practicing. i hear that guitar world has some good tunes tabbed out for you this month.

if you're so desparate for a "best of" cleveland award. you can have it.

Thanks for the fireworks ecard! Fireworks for the blog are NOT tonight!
I am a traditionalist...fireworks on the fourth.
Individuals have been blowin off fireworks for weeks, surely you have seen at least one fireworks display!

Holiday Ecards

I am trying to figure out how to bring an ecard link to clevelandcountry.blogspot.

Amid accusations of "email theft", posted complaints regarding well wishes, and "campers" demanding in PROFANE detail to never be sent anything again, I need to amend my delivery of well wishes.

The primary stumbling block is contacts utilizing more than one email address. It is troubling, but does NOT keep me awake at night.

I don't want to leave ANYONE out that doesn't mind heartfelt American Greeting cards on holidays.

BTW...I agree, sharing a pleasant thought and "common ground" should NOT be this complex.

Quick notes:

NOT personal...it's business!
NOT changing content.
NOT playing the Dixie Chicks.
NOT "fair and balanced".
NOT Comcastic!
NOT that story again!
NOT interested.

NOT that big of a deal.

Happy 4th of July.
Today is Independence Day.

Curiously, Websterscountry(clevelandcountry.blogspot) was inspired from several angles. The dictionary was shelved just above eye level at my computer desk. The light went off in my head. More about that later.

A book of words with definitions, and a user of the world wide web "webster"...and of course my fascination with the ever changing Cleveland country music scene.

What does Webster say about Independence Day?
The dictionary...that is.

Independence Day: A civil holiday for the celebration of national independence and commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

Brief History:
The struggle to break free from colonial status inspired the Declaration of Independence and provided the basis of the US Constitution and Charters of Freedom.

Charters of Freedom brought us the Bill of Rights. First and foremost is the freedom of unabridged speech.

Today is a celebration of freedoms. My personal favorite is "freedom of speech" Freedom to speak/write/web/post/blog without censorship, editing or moderating.

This blog is a direct result of posts being moderated and then rejected or removed. Our liberties and privileges we celebrate today were born from a voice of dissent.

Your voice and words are welcome.
Come blog with me!!

Yep TimJ, members move on all the time. Good thing everyone has the right to do that. They use all kinds of excuses to do it too: creative differences, taking time off for "personal issues", injury. It's best to be honest - even IF we're talking about Whiskey Bent, who know extremely little about honesty. Maybe, just maybe, they were told the truth and just didn't understand the concept of it all. They shouldn't be surprised, really. What goes around, comes around. Seems they did the exact same thing once upon a time and now they're whining? They've been done wrong? ROFLMAO

9:26 AM
Blogger tobykeithfan said...

I agree with Molly. Whisky Bent was not "wronged". They were the culprits. Pond Scum if you ask me. They took advantage of people that only wanted to help them. Maybe lower than Pond Scum. The stuff that eats the Pond Scum.

Yes Frankley, Pond Scum.
I know the details of what went on with them and Heartland. I was disheartened by the way Mike treated Jim after all he did to help him get on his feet. I don't feel the need to go into detail but I was shocked to find out I didn't know him as well as I thought I did. I've seen him perform lately. He can't seem to stay on the stage and can't seem to get enough to drink.

Molly
I am NOT going to tell you to "get over it" or to "move on". You have been very patient with my own tirades about "campers" you care about...you and your words are always welcome. I do NOT envy your position...YOU have one of the toughest volunteer band associate job descriptions on record. I do NOT know what kind of experiences you have been witness to...I only have my own. My recommendation is to use discretion in your strong opinions/perspectives as to NOT bring on an onslaught of "other" examples of poor/vile behavior. Some things are really really "not for the blog".

Joe
There is no doubt in my mind, you definitely attended a

With all due respect to Mr. Webster, I would have never in my wildest dreams thought I'd hear the words "class act" in the same sentence as Whiskey Bent. I assume that was Mr.'s sense of humor shining through - or he was paid handsomely to say it.

As for anything I've witnessed w/ HL, nothing out of the ordinary. When Mike & Co. left the band, the vile behavior left too. However, I do respect that you all have your own "horror stories" from experiences with HL in the PAST; I hope you respect me when I say that I have witnessed nothing of the sort. I cannot comment on things that I was not privy to nor witnessed. Most of y'all know Eddie & Dirk so you probably know they are rather "subdued" if you were to stand them next to Mike & Brian. I am NOT comparing them in any way as musicians, just as men.

I got this from Gerry of the Swamp Boogie Band. It is so true!

How To Request A Song From The Band

When requesting a song from the band, just say "play .. my song!" We have chips implanted in our heads with an unlimited database of the favorite tunes of every patron who ever walked into a bar and all songs ever recorded so feel free to be vague, we love the challenge.

If we say we really don't remember that tune you want, we're only kidding. Bands do know every song ever recorded, so keep humming. Hum harder if need be... it helps jog the memory, or just repeat your request over and over again.

If a band tells you they do not know a song you want to hear, they either forgot they know the tune or they are just putting you on. Try singing a few words for the band. Any words will do.

It also helps to scream your request from across the room several times per set followed by the phrases, "AW COME ON!" and, "YOU SUCK!" Exaggerated hand gestures expressing disapproval from the dance floor are a big help as well, such as the thumbs down or your middle finger up Put-downs are the best way to jog a band's memory. This instantly promotes you to the status of "Personal Friend Of The Band." You can bet your request will be the next song we play.

Entertainers are notorious fakers and jokesters and never really prepare for their shows. They simply walk on stage with no prior thought to what they will do once they arrive. We don't actually make set lists or rehearse songs. We mostly just wait for you to yell something out, then fake it.

An entertainer's job is so easy, even a monkey could do it, so don't let them off the hook easily. Your request is all that matters. Once you've figured out what genre of music the band plays, please make your requests from a totally different genre. The more exaggerated the better. If its a blues band playing, yell for some Metallica or Slayer or Pantera. Likewise, if its a death-speed metal band, be sure to request Brown-eyed Girl or some Grateful Dead. Musicians need to constantly broaden their musical horizons, and its your job to see that it happens....immediately.

Drummers--PLAY "WIPE OUT"!!

''TALKING WITH THE BAND''

The best time to discuss anything with the band in any meaningful way is at the middle of a song when all band members are singing at the same time. Our hearing is so advanced that we can pick out your tiny voice from the megawatt wall of sound blasting all around us. And we can converse with you in sign language while singing the song, so don't worry that we're in the middle of the chorus.

Musicians are expert lip readers too. If a musician does not reply to your question or comment during a tune, it's because they didn't get a good look at your mouth in order to read your lips. Simply continue to scream your request and be sure to over emphasize the words with your lips. This helps immensely. Don't be fooled.

Singers have the innate ability to answer questions and sing at the same time. If the singer doesn't answer your questions immediately, regardless of how stupid the question may seem, it's because they are purposely ignoring you. If this happens, immediately cop an attitude. We love this.

''IMPORTANT''

When an entertainer leans over to hear you better, grab his or her head in both hands and yell directly into their ear, while holding their head securely so they cannot pull away. This will be taken as an invitation to a friendly and playful game of tug of war between their head and your hands.Don't give up! Hang on until the singer or guitar player submits. Drummers are often safe from this fun game since they usually sit in the back, protected by the guitar players. Keyboard players are protected by their instrument, and only play the game when tricked into coming from behind their keyboards. Though difficult to get them to play, it's not impossible, so keep trying. They're especially vulnerable during the break between songs.Make sure you have a beer and a cigarette whenever you talk to a musician.

Please refrain from telling me to "get a life", when your position is I am the meanest person "you know"!!
Honey...you need to step away from your computer, and out of that band bubble and experience life.

Look...if I posted EVERYTHING that comes my way, the sordid stories, the ridiculous emails, all the he said/she said, and I heard/saw then maybe you would have a legitimate gripe...instead you are headed for the recycle bin.

Trust me,Mrs.Webster can take care of herself. In the imortal words of Mr.T,"I pity the fool" she goes after! You would not believe the dirt she has refrained from exposing. Some of you are very lucky she's a lady.

Nakkedmonkey--Thank you for defending my honor.

more email from the "curious" camp?
monkey see, monkey do.
There is plenty of dirt from the "campgrounds", and I can attest she does not use it.
mrs. webster is a lady, always has been, very posied, and friendly. This emailer is confused, and might need medical attention from the lack of oxygen to the brain.

And I agree she is a true lady with the utmost respect and honesty that seems to lack in most folks.

Prince "H"? First, it was "golden boy" and now he's a prince. LOL I'm not gonna say anything at all against HRH John, but seems to me that another camp is running scared. They couldn't take the heat so they'd rather whine on their own guestbook.

Her golden boy goes to school in Kentucky; her prince lives in town; she knows but one King.

Check out some of the new artists she's found. You'll see where Cleveland stands.

lamo--Do you read it? Do you post?
Why do you care? She always has the last laugh!
