FEMA has identified more than 1,500 cases of "potential" fraud after Hurricane Katrina and Rita.

The GAO has stated "improper" payments were between $600 million and $1.4 billion.

FEMA paid hotels $8,000 to house one individual. The same person received three rental assistance payments for both disasters.

FEMA paid an individual $2,358 in rental assistance, while at the same time paying about $8,000 for the same person to stay 70 nights in a Hawaii hotel.

FEMA debit card purchases:

A one-week Caribbean vacation at a Punta Cana resort in the Dominican Republic.

Five season tickets for the New Orleans Saints.

Porn videos in Texas.
"Girls Gone Wild" videos in CA.

Down payment on a sex-change operation.

Divorce proceedings.

FEMA paid millions of dollars to more than 1,000 people who used names and Social Security numbers belonging to jail inmates for housing.

FEMA made about $5.3 million in payments to people who provided a PO box as their affected residence.

ONE person who used 13 different Social Security numbers to receive $139,000 in payments on 13 separate occasions for aid. All the payments were sent to a single address.

Who would you fire for
misappropriation of funds?

Dixie Chicks
Yes, we live in a country where free speech is condoned and encouraged, but it makes me crazy when people use their celebrity to abuse the privilege. Keep your mouth shut on awards shows, keep your mouth shut when I pay an arm and a leg to see you in concert. One of my favorite e-mails lately: if you don’t stand behind our troops, feel free to stand in front of them. Plus, don’t trash country music and country radio and then expect to get your song played and embraced there. It should have a parentheses behind it just like Toby Keith’s “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)” to the effect of “Not Ready to Make Nice (I’m still an Annoying B*#ch)”

Gays and Gay-Lovers
Get over it. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, just that you shouldn’t be shocked and appalled every time you encounter resistance. As for the comments that have you all bent out of shape on here…you are really looking for an excuse to be offended if that got you upset.

Ladies
This is a blog, not a chat room. Go somewhere else to reminisce about your drinking stories or chat about work. I doubt I’m the only one who could care less.

Frank
Is a fat, lazy slob. I would have fired him, too.

Elliott
It’s about time he went home. Chris rocks. Taylor is a 29-year-old lounge singer. Kat is the American Idol.

Cavs
Go Cavs! Doubt they can actually pull off the upset, though.

Lawless News
I wouldn’t call that news, I would call that talking and talking and never really saying anything. Heck, every day I’m on the verge of something that could change my life as I know it.

There you go, webster - Ami may have been at a loss for words, but I found a few things to tickle my fancy

Well look at that. I didn’t think this community could handle an unpopular opinion. Just because I say something that isn’t in line with your left-wing liberalist views, I’m the one who’s “wrong”. You’re all about free speech as long as you agree with what I have to say. Someone comes along and pushes your buttons and it turns you into a hypocrite or fills you with internal conflict.
So many people on here professing to speak “the truth” just cracks me up. There are two truths to all of it. I’ve seen all of the bands and I’ve seen you on stage and I’ve seen you on break, bs-ing at the bar. There’s always a truth on-stage and a truth off-stage. That’s where all the fodder for the blog comes from! You all do it, so let’s just leave it at that. We all know how happy you are for each other, how hard you all work, how much you respect each other, but give us a break. You’re all jealous of Lawless, you all think you are better than your counterpart in the other bands, and a lot of you wouldn’t be where you are today if it weren’t for Heartland. You’re just trying to hide your shame for being fired, just like anyone would by puffing out your chest and blaming “Buck” and reassuring yourselves you’re in good company.
So let the ego strokers continue to stroke your egos, let the “truth tellers” continue to think they know the “REAL” truth, and I’ll continue to have my opinion, whether it’s popular or not.

I see you finally figured out where my post name came from. I also see I have really gotten under your skin!

Sara
It was nice of you to give Webster an opportunity to try and explain away her racial insinuation, but her efforts are as futile as Ross’s were. You were on the right track. It is clearly about the demographics of the east side vs. the west side, and the demographics of Garfield Hts. in particular. Her “distance” excuse is laughable, seeing as it is a mere 3 exits from Aces that is so conveniently located.

Ziggy
"Tricks and treachery are the practice of fools, that don't have brains enough to be honest." - Benjamin Franklin
I couldn’t agree with you more. At least I’m being honest.

Charlene
I sense them, too.

In general
I regret that my comments have negatively reflected on Laredo. My intentions were 1) to present the “far right” side to counter the recent “far left” direction of the blog and 2) to be “for the low man on the totem pole.” We went through this months ago when Matt left Lawless. But at least it was finally let go. Neither Lawless or Laredo owes any of us an explanation for personnel changes they make in their bands. If you were a Matt fan, then you’re SOL. If you were a Frank fan, then go see Backwoods and shut up already!
For the record, I’m sure Frank is a nice guy. I don’t know, because I’ve never met him. Therefore, my opinions are based solely on the observable. It was not difficult to observe him sitting in a chair in sweatpants at every gig. There – I omitted the “vile” part, even though I am not the first to make comments of that nature, just the first to be so sternly reprimanded for it.

"Not Ready to Make Nice"

English translation of an interview with the Dixie Chicks from Spain.

The country music industry reversed the loyalty encouragement and accolades they had heaped upon the Chicks since the Eighties, and
instead promoted a coordinated boycott of their music that still
persists. "We are not going to fight against country radio or ask that the country music world take us back. They made the decision,it is they who betrayed us. They mobilized themselves against us and politcized us. We may make a few points here and there, but we never will never have the same success we used to have in country radio", said Emily Robison.

Not even when Bush leaves the White House do the Dixie Chicks expect to recover the stellar position they had before 2003.

"This is no longer an issue of the President, but of the culture --
ultraconservative and right-wing. It is sad that they don't allow you
to lean to the left,to be 'liberal', as they say.
In country music there is no tolerance for people like us", she explained. "I never believed in the stereotypical image of the country music world being a
homogenous community of intolerant people who are closed-minded. But
they have shown me I was mistaken -- and that hurts much." The country
music world has closed the door on them, but it has not managed to
defeat them.

We who know war for what it truly is have a profound responsibility to again come forward, shoulder to shoulder, and bear witness to the truth about war. If our sacrifices and those of our brothers and sisters whose lives were cut short by war, are to have any meaning at all, we must raise our voices in unison and warn those who make war lightly, or are ignorant of its nature and consequences, and send other children to kill and die in battle, that we reject their mythology and their rhetoric of false patriotism and will not unquestioningly and blindly support unjust, unnecessary, and morally questionable wars.

An Army reservist who has become the oldest Wisconsin war casualty in at least 50 years told family members that she worried about being too old and poorly trained for combat.

"We had no idea why she was there," said Lorraine Stevenson, a cousin of Merideth Howard of Waukesha, who was killed Friday in Afghanistan, five months after her unit arrived there.

Howard was 52 years old, making her also the oldest female military member from anywhere in the United States killed in action since U.S. military operations began in Afghanistan and Iraq.

When we speak of the survivors that are missing at least one limb, the numbers are staggering....25,000-30,000.

Keep in mind, the medical care has improved 1000% since Vietnam. However, how many multiple amputee Nam vets do you know still alive...that are NOT insane, drug addicted, or holed-up in some nursing home.
Still alive is critical...how many Nam vets committed suicide, over-dosed, drank themselves to death or died in prison.

In addition, it has been reported by the AP that the IRAQ morgues are no longer permitted to release civilian death tolls to the press.

January at the earliest for any REAL change in the course. They are waiting to see how much they can salvage and whose left when the dust settles.
Baiting the middle.

I am counting on my newly elected officials to go after Rumsfeld FIRST. Get Colin Powell back ASAP.

I am appalled at John McCain, and provoked enough to write and tell him so. The letter was kinda comical, I told him I had just recovered from his 2004 flip-flop via Meet the Press.
I expressed my genuine disgust/outrage when he gets reeled back in by the RNC.
GOD love him...he is advocating for POW's and he is NOT on the ban abortion band wagon, but he sucks up to the Evangelicals, and blames Clinton for N. Korea. Boooooooooo!

NOT the atrocity he committed in 2004 when denied he would cross the aisle for a VP spot on the Democratic ticket with Kerry. Two
Vietnam Veterans with Powell running the country and the war. Things that make me go hmmmmm.

Who knew what when about Foely is going to go on until 2008. It's hard to imagine that NONE of the potential presidential candidates knew about Foely.
The conservative charismatic Evangelicals are NOT happy about the "queerness" on the hill.
Kinda makes me wish they parade the VP's daughter out.
People do change religions/family values/friends over hostile discrimination and intolerant behavior against their children.
This year has been especially hostile, and humorous at the same time.

Are we so divided politically they we HEAR things differently? Do people REALLY embrace Rush Limbagh?
Are Americans THAT stupid? O'Reily and his kool-aid? Seems to me, they have been sampling the purple punch.

I was NOT going to get on the Kerry bandwagon. I did NOT think it would make another news cycle.
I suppose that those of us that believe that the President is NOT the brightest crayon in the box understood what was being said.
WE GOT IT...the first time!

Personally, I am growing weary of being terrorized by this administration. They demand apologies...yet do NOT offer any!
Kerry is right...these guys have NEVER served, yet they have no issues with sending our families to slaughter...and keeping them there over and over and over!

Instead of displaying any degree of remorse for the NEW Vietnam they have led us into...they insist we are UN-AMERICAN. LAME!

My tendency to support John McCain is OVER. Apparently...he's able to blather the RNC talking points more frequently than I can stomach.

His remarks regarding the John Kerry flap reek. How, with a straight face can he misspeak to the American public about a Vietnam Vet...a brother?

It doesn't stop there...John McCain is capable of inflammatory rhetoric against a sister as well.

Yesterday, he was verbally ostracizing an IRAQ war vet with both legs missing, just because she's the DEMOCRAT.

Who saw Meet The Press? I think Senator Elizabeth Dole might be raiding her husband's (former VP Bob Dole) little blue pill stash.
In my opinion she did little to squash the outrage of her constituents over the Iraq war. Nearly all the polls indicate 70% of people want a change in the IRAQ policy. 70%!!!!
This woman is a Harvard grad...do the math! Her statement that "the Democrats are content with losing in Iraq" caused the most ire among the other guests; Senator Chuck Schumer and Representatives Rahm Emanuel and Tom Reynolds. Attempts to rebutt her statement were lost, Tim Russert was unable to moderate her interruptions and constant yapping. The words/hand signals "time-out" meant NOTHING.
She just kept rolling...hopefully her party's gravy train will come to a screeching halt in the next 36 hours.
The Democrats are NOT content with losing...PERIOD!
The feverish outlandish rhetoric is expected the weekend before the mid term elections. Most political junkies are accustomed to the "talking points".
So...it was NOT her statement about IRAQ that riled me up. This has been the Republican mantra for the last 8 months. It was her assertion that the Republicans do NOT have "talking points"!
OMG...what was she thinking?
Does she NOT watch/hear her colleagues? Did she miss a memo? Did the RNC NOT invite her to the last "talking points" rally.
Is she oblivious to the catch phrases? Is she ingesting her husband's little blue pill with purple punch?
Senator Elizabeth Dole is AWARE that the "talking points" are NOT working, therefore she denies they exist. LOL

In my humble opinion I think it sucks that everyone needs to label themselves with a word. Both sides have good points and bad points. Neither side will fix everything that's wrong until they stop doing favors for their biggest campaign contributors and start taking the interest of the people to heart. Both paries suck, and we seriously need 2 term limits to all political positions. Dems, have fun revelling in your victory. You're sure to screw up things just as both parties have for as long as anyone can remember. Republicans, start figuring out how to finger point better so you can get back into power years from now and screw things up. This country is such a mess.

Well...thanks for turning “LEFT” at the light. Moderate is GOOD. Although you are sounding BECKish.

“Taking interest in the people’ is
your best point, and I agree. Campaign reform has been blocked by both sides, especially those aspiring for higher office.

The most aggressive lobbyists against campaign reform is corporate media. While cable and talk radio would like us to believe the media is biased to the “LEFT”, it isn’t.

I disagree with you regarding term limits for ALL political office...many have term limits. Those that do NOT, have the best term limit in place...the people.

Dems/liberals are feeling JOY. We have been vindicated with the help of independents, moderates, and the “right”.

YOU can count on me to be critical of the “LEFT” as well. Rest assured, if the next President “stays the course” and leads us into international shame, loss of life and outrageous debt...I’ll be on it.

If the next VP fires a shot gun into the face of a friend, after a couple of scotch manhattans, I promise to be mortified and demand a public investigation.

Regardless of who sits in the oval office next, I will mourn with the women of this country. I will count their loss...and NEVER forget how the Neo-Cons started the coalition fatality count.

For me, it is NOT a victory...it’s validation. It is doubtful that YOU received HATE mail, I did...from people we BOTH know. I am NOT talking about outrageous posts on the blog...again, people we BOTH know. I am talking about down right, vile, profanity laden, name calling mail. In addition, it is doubtful YOU were physically threatened over WORDS...again, people we BOTH know. Do you think it is just a coincidence that I have NOT been out on the Cleveland country music scene? It is a conscious decision over safety/security.

The country is NOT a mess...it’s the people that live in it. I am proud to be culturally liberal and tolerant. It is my personal mission to help the sick, old, frail and poor...kinda like what Jesus requested of his flock. It’s the right thing to do...I mean “LEFT”. I am a patriot. I love my country. I support our men/women in uniform. I have faith, hope and charity.
Call me a bleeding heart liberal...NOT a treasonous fascist. OU-RAH!

There are 30 more coalition casualties on this date compared to this date in August...and hundreds more dead Iraqi civilians.

I appreciate John McCain and others taking the General to task on "there has been progress, a decrease in violence and stay the course".

Sadly...your soldier is haunted, his soul is in despair, his heart is broken, he fears living, he mourns daily, and is trying to answer the question...Why? I have read HIS story a thousand times. The living dead...he will NEVER be the same, and statically his decaying spirit will kill him slowly, one day at a time.

The media is NOT Left. An overwhelming amount of media is controlled by the right. Lefties like the 2 or 3 programs that are anchored/presented from the "LEFT" perspective. The conservative agenda is crammed onto the airwaves the other 20 hours of the day!

Twenty more American families agonize in inconsolable grief the "we must win" Iraq war/policy.

The more recent wire updates indicate that 12 Americans died, not 13 as originally reported and confirm the helicopter was shot down by insurgents.

Hostile fire, grenades, and wounds from earlier in the week claimed 8 more...3044 dead.

6:59 AM
Blogger Mrs. Webster said...

3048 DEAD...thousands wounded.

Advances in military/medical technology are managing the death rate. Armor protects the vital organs, hearts and lungs, unlike Vietnam.

An extremely high number of wounded soldiers are coming home with their arms or legs amputated.
OH...it is estimated, genitals are amputated of one or two men every day.

Perhaps, if George had his balls amputated...we could end this nightmare fairly quickly.

152,669 veterans filed disability claims after fighting in Iraq or Afghanistan. The processing of claims is just another pathetic story.

Between Christmas and New Year's 2006, five U.S. soldiers committed suicide after being informed they'd been ordered to serve an additional tour in Iraq. Two Vets were killed in confrontations with law enforcement in the same time period.

Trust me...I can appreciate the investigation into the facilities and services our veterans receive.
IT'S LONG OVERDUE!

King George just read about it in the paper...the man needs to add a new word to his limited vocabulary.
GOOGLE. His Saturday radio address was laughable!

Complaints about Walter Reed began surfacing THREE years ago. The problem is huge and is NOT limited to DC.

Military service families have the spotlight...thank GOD. I am prayerful the floodgates open.

Perhaps when the "committee" is done investigating sub standard medical care, they will move onto military bankruptcies, foreclosures, and food lines.

As has been noted here...the casualties are comparatively lower to other wars, due to the advances in medical science.

However, the number of amputees, brain injuries, and castrations is staggering.

Is it that surprising that this administration was NOT prepared to meet the needs of it's warriors?

Remember...our tax dollars finance this mess. Please recall we spent 25 MILLION dollars on armoured garbage cans in Baghdad, and lessons on what garbage cans are for. Seriously...look it up!

25 MILLION could go a long way in providing services to American Vets.

The "OTHER" count...
While high in the skies, on his tour of South American nations;
King George hand wrote a request to Congress for $3.2 billion more to pay for 8,200 more U.S. troops needed in Afghanistan and Iraq on top of the 21,500-troop buildup he announced in January.

It's NOT necessarily the money...it's the 8,200 more troops.
21,500 is the number that has been tossed around for months to "WIN".
If I recall correctly, 21,500 was "combat" troops.
Fair and balanced FOX missed the follow up memo regarding "needed support troops for the 21,500"...estimated to be as many as 30,000.

Where are these 30,000 coming from;
the reservists.

Ya know, the 38 YO guy with two kids, that is just getting back on his feet from his last Bagdad nightmare is being called up...again!

Police officers/military police are the highest priority "draftees" this go-around. Hmmmm...so let's take 4000 police officers away from their duties here and send them to police a secretain gang war.

US troops that were supposed to be home three weeks ago, staying another 4 months.

About the money...

Things that make me go hmmmmmmm...

Halliburton, headed by Vice President Dick Cheney until 2000, plans to move the corporate headquarters from Houston to the Mideast financial powerhouse of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Federal investigators have indicated that Halliburton is responsible for $2.7 billion of the $10 billion in contractor waste and overcharging in Iraq.

In 2006, Halliburton earned profits of $2.3 billion on revenues of $22.6 billion.

Maybe it's the "cowboy" reference...Maverick McCain.

My respect for John McCain diminishes a titch more, just about every time the man opens his mouth these days.

Senator McCain and an entourage of armoured Humvees visited a Baghdad market and managed to purchase souvenir rugs without getting their heads blown off...

Yesterday morning, Senator McCain's "talking point"...
The media refuses to report the good news, and that the "insurgency crackdown" is effective.

Persian rugs is the proof he offers. So, while he was spouting off on all the Sunday morning talk shows trying to sell the war...

Six Americans were killed by roadside bombs YESTERDAY southwest of Baghdad.
Four of them were killed responding to the bomb that killed the first two.

Twenty Iraqi bodies were found, executed, mostly in Baghdad.

In the last week, 600+ Iraqis have been killed in sectarian violence.

1800+ Iraqi civilians died in the month of March.

At least 80 Americans lost their lives in March...

Hope John McCain enjoys his rugs!

More of the same...

An announcement that 9000 military personnel are being called up... AGAIN! Some for the fourth time.
Most reports support, what we already know, the military is stretched too thin.
Promises of a year out of the combat theater can NOT be honored.

The Maverick
The McCain story is quite thee hot topic in the blogosphere as well as main stream media.

Hmmm, thought it was just me.
I guess I would be categorized as a heckler.
So be it...John McCain deserves the criticism.

If you are gonna be the official hawk and pitch man for the war, you should expect heckling.

It's no longer 2003...it's 2007.
At least 65% of Americans disagree with John McCain.

LOL
King George and Prince Dick, both declined to throw out the first baseball yesterday...for fear of being booed on national television, and it being replayed 87 times on a 118 channels.

Every HOLY day in the states is marred by death and destruction in Iraq.
The U.S. military announced the weekend deaths of 10 American soldiers, including six killed on Easter Sunday.

Sen. Joseph Lieberman made the rounds on the Sunday morning talk shows to declare the Baghdad “surge” was effective.

Lieberman's profession of the absurd is based on, Al-Sadr’s (Shiite Cleric) statement to his followers to kill Americans, NOT each other.
"God has ordered you to be patient in front of your enemy, and unify your efforts against them-not against the sons of Iraq". Hmmmmmmm...can YOU take that statement, and find the GOOD news?

Sure, I would like to believe that the surge is making a difference...but it isn’t.

Baghdad might be slightly more secure...however, these people are NOT morons.

They have moved the death, destruction, execution, torture, and chlorine bombs to other areas.

At least 62 bodies, execution victims, who were tortured, were found Northeast of Baghdad last week alone.

A truck bomb exploded, south of Baghdad, killing at least 18 people and wounding 23.

At least 47 people were killed or found dead in violence Easter Sunday, including 17 execution victims dumped in the capital.

Five bodies burned beyond recognition, littered a courtyard and hospitals were treating chlorine exposure/burns.

Which brings me to TRIV...another idiot, proclaiming to the masses with unequivocal authority: "the streets of Cleveland are MORE dangerous than the streets of Iraq." Did the Cleveland Police find 17 dead bodies on Public Square, Easter Sunday?

My world views are rarely popular with the "country crowd".
In an effort to humor them, I opened a new thread last June for my "political" rants and objections to the IRAQ war/massacre.

I have avoided commenting on the VT murders. But here it is.

No amount of gun control, medication, therapy or counseling would have stopped this deranged man. He had a death wish. He believed he was a martyr.
His perception was his reality.

I am disappointed by the glutenous Virginia Tech media coverage portraying this incident as thee most horrific item of the day.

The absence of political commentary/analysis regarding the obvious mayhem that occurs DAILY, "some where else" is sorta absurd.

Perhaps, Americans are NOT ready for the world view. We have a tendency to grieve openly for our own...ONLY.

So...today, while we participate in the onslaught of news coverage of the memorial services at Virginia Tech. Keep in mind...we are NOT the only ones grieving

Every single day in Iraq, dozens of innocent people are massacred by nut cases.
Routinely, self proclaimed martyrs record a death wish video, and proceed to the market, mosque, university or hospital to kill themselves and as many others as they possibly can.

My question; why is the VT massacre MORE heinous than a typical day in Baghdad?

Where is the outrage, and outpouring of sympathy for the thousands of innocent people that have been murdered by nutcases?

Is an Iraqi mothers grief at her child being slaughtered by a nutcase less meaningful?

Are Virgina Tech students more valuable than Mosul University students?

I grieve daily...how bout you?

I don't believe you are insensitive...more like, typical
mindset.

Ya got the point...it’s America, therefore it is MORE tragic.

My point...

This month alone, hundreds upon hundreds of innocent HUMAN BEINGS have been massacred.
I lost count after 900...

On Wednesday

A car bomb avalanche slaughtered 160 HUMAN BEINGS in Baghdad.

Americans matter...72 dead this month

Ohio has the distinction of being one of the TOP ten states with the MOST causalities. 142 to date.

OMG...the right wing has fallen off the planet.

The idea that students should be permitted to carry concealed weapons to class was floated on the Sunday morning talk shows.

Tom Delay and Newt Gingrich must have had lunch with Rush and Karl.

UMMM....arming students made it to the the right-wing talking points?!?

Karl Rove MUST have really been shaken by GONZO's inability to recall ANYTHING, to be this FAR off base with a mourning American public.

Delay and Newt suggested: had the VT students been armed themselves their would have been less fatalities.

OK...MAYBE they are right. NAH...don't think so!
BOTH went on to say, the VT massacre was the Liberals fault.

They fall right behind RUSH who made the same argument last week, and identified the shooter as a Liberal.

Has the right-wing plunged so far into the abyss, that they are willing to label the shooter as a LIBERAL for VOTES?

Seems Sheryl Crow was joking with her "ONE SQUARE" comment.

It appears that the media caught wind of a stupid-sounding comment and ran with it while taking it out of context.

So sorry, Sheryl. Now that I've read your entire comment and realize that it was taken out of context and understand that it was meant to be funny... I still think it was pretty stupid.

First...have you noticed how the media is following the White house press releases and calling everyone in Iraq Al-Qaeda. You rarely hear Sunnis, Shites or insurgents.
Second...the Republicans are FINALLY backing away from the GOD forsaken Iraq policy in a meaningful way. A little late...but still it's progress.
I had to LOL at O'Riely last night in his "memo"...we can't cut and run, but it's time to "downsize" the military presence in Iraq.
Ya think...let's see how many times we hear "downsize".
ME...I don't care what they call it, it's just laughable but so VERY tragic, it took so long to find a palatable word for the right wingers.
