...6 days and counting!

My girl, Kellie Pickler will perform her hit single, "Red High Heels," on "The Today Show" this morning.
Her debut country album, “Small Town Girl” was released yesterday.

Has a Cleveland country band been booked at Saddle Ridge yet?
Might be interesting to see which band lands there first…on a Wednesday night?

Ziggy, I was not "wrong" about HL being at the brewing company the other night because that's what my copy of the schedule indicated. Obviously, it was a mistake on someone's part but I had it in black and white at the time I posted, way back whenever that was. However, that's neither here nor there....
What part of town do YOU live in? I only got about 25 trick-or-treaters last night! All the kids in Brooklyn must have left the city.

Halloween is fading fast folks. Parma wasn't nearly as active as it usually is and I've noticed a steady decline over the last few years. I hear the same from folks in several other cities. The times they are a changing, but not always for the better.

Blogger Molly said...

Right, who needs all these leftovers I ended up with!? lol It really is a shame because it's a fun holiday for the kids and I hate to see it fading away.

We had 80 to 90 trick or treaters last night. Although I live on a main street, not in a development.
Halloween is alive and well in the developments.
My girlfriend spent a hundred bucks on candy and said she had close to 300 kids.
I bought candy we don't like, NO CHOCOLATE...something body parts. Teeth, eyeballs, bloody fingers, broken bones and tongues. Towards the end we gave out more! I saved to red jelly/gummy eyeballs.

It's a flippen love fest!
The Cleveland country music community has returned to the "we are all brothers" concept.
Kind, pleasant, complementary, and happy for each other. There is no jealousy, no contempt, everyone is equally talented. There are no issues or scandals. All the bands have achieved a gossip/drama free status. All the "campers" are thrilled and share the joy in the success of Lawless.

Boy, that Saddle Ridge sure is HUGE! Too bad the dance floor couldn't be a bit bigger...it's pretty big but for the size of the place, I think they could've extended it more than they did. Music was good...wish it were all country, but variety is all right.

The blog is acting goofy today. On the other hand my email is functioning just dandy.

I praise all involved for reeling it in during the Cleveland Country Cares fundraising.

Stopping the rhetoric, absurd allegations, daily attacks and talking about the issues and familial ramifications of one of the most debilitating and devastating disease processes known to man helped our shared cause.
AMEN!

Alex and Alzheimer's...

You watch the decline for up to twenty years. Kinda like Alex P. Keaton. It is NOT gonna get any better for Alex or an Alzheimer victim until there is breakthrough science.

If I had eggs, I would donate them. I wouldn't sell them...I let them have'em. There are thousands of women just like me...LOL, with eggs to give! Bazillions of eggs being thrown out at fertility clinics?

The brainstorm of the RNC talking points is adopting them out. Well, here is a progressive/alternative idea...while ya all argue that point for a year, could women, that want to donate their eggs to science do so? Please?
Here...take em! I want ya to have them. Good Lord...we EAT eggs!

Anyway...Alzheimer's Disease brought the fans together. The fans made it work! Country music fans raised the money! Amen!
It mattered! It was worth the peace time effort.

I applaud the "campers" for being well behaved on the blogs to assist the Alzheimer's Association.

Has there been any after event press? Let us know when the event cd will be for sale. I'll buy a bunch!

It's Sunday

There are AWESOME country songs about Sundays. I have a title for one, maybe one of you aspiring song writers can come up with something.
The title is: The Lawn/Leaves Can Wait...now write me a song.

Also...song writers...I need a country song that is appropriate for the mother to dance with her son at his wedding. He is her golden boy! It must be sappy, and filled with the message of her love for him. I can't find anything!
Help...

It's Monday!
The EVE of change...AMEN!
This morning I am LOL, not only at Senator Elizabeth Dole.
See "LEFT" thread.

Seriously...I have been laughing at the google bot for a couple of weeks.

Holly Hobby...things that make me go hmmm. The Holly Hobby ad appeared after I referred to female country artists as Miss Kellie or Miss Rachel.
This week we have security and mapping ads. LOL... The bot read the "LEFT" turn signal and the word mapquest. NOT sure what it thought TBD was?
It would be presumptive to say I have lost GAC and CMT as advertisers...however, it would NOT surprise me.

The "NOT for the Blog" is cracking me up!

NOT for the Blog...
OK, I get it, but then WHY tell me? I ask myself...who will it benefit the most or who will it hurt the most?

Another Monday...Another Clash!
The Bull has NOT validated my vote in the "Clashing Country" for like a month. Roger said it was something about a spam filter. Hmmm...The Bull updates make it to my mailbox just fine.
The Bull has NOT responded to an email from me since the "L" clash. Never mind that I put The Bull on the map, promoted the clashes, station and personalities across the the International country community despite being a clear channel station. My question; is The Bull selling our email addresses? NOT LOL!

Brooks & Dunn w/ Vince and Sheryl was a good opener. Ronnie Dunn can flat out sing.

Hey, we beat Kellie Pickler! Where's our invite? LOL

Best Song: The best song actually won! (Sambora is looking Haggard)

Commercial Note: I'm almost as sick of Chevy trucks and Mr. Mellencamp as I am of Political Ads.

Carrie Underwood: REALLY nice legs! Good performance.

Brad Paisley: The best I've heard him sound on one of these shows. Such an amazing guitar player!

Sugarland: Jennifer Nettles is money! She hits every note, every time. Whatever dude was wearing on his neck should be burned! LMAO

Gretchen Wilson: Best female voice in the biz today! Both times we worked with her she damn near popped speakers with her power. Damn she can sing.

Song of the year: I'm torn betweeen 8th of Novemebr and Believe.
Believe gets it again - great song!

8:46 PM
Blogger jdh said...

Brooks & Dunn is winning everything! Video of the year. For overall video I liked 8th of November better.

Alan Jackson - I really like this song. I admire the fact that he took a chance on material that took him in another direction. Alan and George Strait's music will never get tired or old for me. Amazingly enough, neither of them do more than just stand there and sing. A testament to the power of an amazing voice.

Little Big Town - I thought it was Fleetwood Mac at first. "If you don't love me now, you will never love me again...." Same song isn't it?

9:02 PM
Blogger jdh said...

Rascall Flats - I don't ever wanna hear about nasally again. It works in country music, so nah!

Kimberly is so cute!

Group - Gee, I wonder who wins? Man was I ever shocked when they read that.

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH - Mellencamp again? Somebody shoot me!

Martina McBride - Such a great singer. I don't really care for the song, but she could sing the dictionary and make it sound good. I do wish that she would pick just one song that didn't have the overly dramatic drawn out note at the end though.

George F'n Strait - 'Nuff Said!

9:27 PM
Blogger jdh said...

Kenny - Flat as usual, but still cute none-the-less!

The Wreckers - I could take it or leave it.

Duo of the year: I wonder who wins? OMG, I'm in shock! (Yawn) Why didn't they just re-name this years show the B&D show, literally. 4th CMA and Hosts.

9:45 PM
Blogger jdh said...

Chevy Trucks and Mellencamp!!! I'm about to spew a phrase I never thought I'd say. Can I please see some political ads, PLEEEEAAZE?

Dierks Bentley - I love this song. I think this guy's music is incredible. Not one song from 3 albums that I don't like.

Eva is sooooo friggin hot!

Male Vocalist - Keith Urban! Get well soon. We all battle our own demons.

Miranda Lambert - Her voice really reminds me of Natalie from the chicks. I like her and her music. She's got attitude.

Musical event - Brad and Dolly. Good choice

We agree again...it happens!
Little Big Town was one of four performances I saw while surfing between MNBC, CNN, fair/balanced Fox, and ABC last night.
If ya did NOT know LBT was parading around as country music, and flipped on during their performance; ya could have easily thought they were a Fleetwood Mac tribute band. SAD!
Unfortunately...the traditional differences between country and pop are so blurred to appeal to the masses. I blame the labels.
Also tuned in to see;
The Wreckers...a wreck!
Kenny...disappointing!
Alan Jackson...WOW!

Good Luck with The Bull on-air interview this morning.

Happy Election Day! Boy - I'll be glad when this is all over....so sick of the commercials as is everyone else I'm sure.

Great show last night but my opinion is that Miranda Lambert didn't even SING a song. She TALKED a song. She has talent; I just wasn't thrilled w/ her choice last night. I ended up taping the last half hour and missed Faith's reaction when Carrie U. won. All over the radio this morning...I'll check it out when I get home.

Hope the Bull interview went well, JDH. Great running commentary on the show last night BTW.

9:22 AM
Blogger Molly said...

Really. I guess Ohio will never get with the times and keep up with neighboring states. With Ohio money going to continue to come their way, every state surrounding us is thrilled today.

9:35 AM
Blogger Molly said...

I was looking at it more for the jobs it would bring to the area and the fact that it may keep money in Ohio rather than it going to other states. The lottery has done nothing for the kids and I don't think slots would either. I agree, they should have kept education out of it.

11:03 AM
Blogger jdh said...

I am a smoker.....I am happy that issue 5 passed!

The issue is smoking in a "public" place. I don't believe I have the "right" to smoke in a public place, simply because I don't have the right to slowly kill anybody. It's really that simple. Can anybody say they have that right? You can argue that if you don't like the smoke, don't go in, but that argument is garbage. If it's a public place, then everybody has the right to be there.

This country spends billions on providing health care for people with no insurance, who have smoke related illness. A huge portion of that is coming from no-smokers I would bet.

Why should a non-smoker pay a penalty (monetary and health) because they were smart enough not to start?

11:06 AM
Blogger Molly said...

The biggest scam around is health insurance. Employers pay big bucks so their employees can have insurance and those without insurance can go to any hospital and get fixed up without having to pay. They can go to Metro which has some of the best doctors around and not have to pay a cent. I believe that the "dangers" of secondhand smoke are GREATLY exaggerated. It's a wonderful excuse, though, for the non-smokers to use.... There are dangers walking down the street, crossing the street, etc. I was around smokers my entire childhood and I've managed to make it 42 years now. lol It's all about choice and ours was taken away. People were thrilled when we were paying extra taxes to help fund a stadium. We'll be paying even more taxes because of Issue 18....but yet we no longer have a choice where we can smoke?

11:30 AM
Blogger Molly said...

I do NOT mean to sound heartless because there are people out there, I know, suffering from some ailments due to secondhand smoke. And there are plenty that are not.

11:39 AM
Blogger jdh said...

Molly - even if it's true that danger of secondhand smoke is exaggerated, it's undeniable that there is still a danger. None of us have the right to "purposely" put another in danger. A smoker (like myself) knowingly and willingly puts themselves in harms way, which is a personal choice. You and I spend thousands of dollars to make ourselves unhealthy, and then run the risk of spending thousands more to treat illness due to our own stupidity.

I would like to see smoking made illegal!! LOL

11:46 AM
Blogger jdh said...

I have seen some research, as well as interviews from bar owners in New York and some other cities. Every one of them was against the smoking bans, obviously, but to a person have said that business slowed in the beginning, then was back up in no time. I think that between the people who don't go to bars simply because of smoke (I bet it's more than most think) and people getting tired of staying home, it won't hurt as bad as you think.

On the positive side, it should help a whole new crop of people quit, and maybe deter some youth from starting. We can hope!

Ziggy - The interview was fun. I think it went pretty well for the first one. It's a little strange because you really don't have time to think about answers to questions. We were there from 8am to 10am and ended up with a total of about 11 minutes of air time. Everybody there was really great though. Nice people.

12:05 PM
Blogger Molly said...

Ziggy, I agree 100%. The clubs are definitely going to lose business.

JDH, everything we do has a "risk" of some sort. Bottom line, it's a personal choice to smoke. And it's a personal choice for a non-smoker to limit their time in a place were there is smoke. If you go to place like Ace's, business is going to decrease because smokers are being "forced out" so to speak. The number of non-smokers suddenly patronizing the bar because the ban is in effect will NOT make up the number of smokers that left.

12:18 PM
Blogger Molly said...

Glad the interview went well, JDH. Will we be able to eventually hear it on your website?

12:22 PM
Blogger jdh said...

Molly - Waking up is a "risk" because you might die that day. Let me give you an example of why that arguement doesn't work though.

Driving: I get in my car every day. When I drive, it's to get somewhere. I have never purposely hit an object with my car. If something happens, it's an accident.

We don't accidentally cause lung and heart disease to non-smokers. We do it on purpose. We know that secondhand smoke causes health problems, exaggerated or not, it causes damage to others and we do it on purpose. Yes, we do it on purpose because we know it's harmful but do it anyway.

The only difference between me hitting someone with my car and blowing smoke for someone to breath is that one hurts instantly, the other takes a long time to hurt.

12:30 PM

12:50 PM
Blogger Molly said...

We all obviously have our own opinions about the smoking ban and could keep going around and around. JDH, I do see your points. However, smokers' rights have been taken away and that is not fair. Non-smokers hold all the cards and benefit from smokers in many ways, once of which is every time they attend an Indians game in a newer stadium. Actually there are so few places people can smoke these days anyway, why can't non-smokers just choose not to frequent those few places. Oh wait, it's all about them; I forgot. I see both sides of the issue; I just wish both sides had a choice.

1:00 PM
Blogger jdh said...

Ernie - you disagree with everything! I don't start my car in a closed room full of crowded people. If I did, you'd die, that's why you're not allowed to have cars running in a closed environment. In relation to the topic that was at hand, they already banned cars in bars and restaurants, so your arguement has no validity. However, you can smoke outside, which is the only place I get to start my car and keep it running as well. Coincidence...I don't think so!

Also, it wasn't done by the government per sae. Citizens petitioned until they had enough signatures to get it on a ballot. The public spoke up state-wide and passed that issue as a majority. The people have spoken, not the government.

Sales-Week Ending-11/5/06
bob@lefsetz.com

Dixie Chicks "Taking The Long Way"

Sales this week: 12,261
Cume: 1,689,621

With Rumsfeld gone, with the Democrats back in power, isn't it time to give a
reprieve to the Dixie Chicks? Isn't it time for country radio to admit it was
wrong, and reinstate the group on its playlist?

The nation is nowhere near as red as the media thought, we're not as
nationalistic, pro-Iraq as everybody thought, we're not all in support of George
Bush, THAT'S FOR SURE!

An olive branch is required. Too bad the CMAs were before the election. Like
the draft dodgers in Canada let back in the country in the Carter era, it's time
to allow these girls to come back home.

Furthermore, with these sales numbers, it seems the public is more enchanted
with the Chicks than MOST country artists!

Sorta...the international “Memorial Day”.

Here in the United States it’s Veteran’s Day...honoring living war/peace time veterans.
A three day weekend in May, we honor the dead.
At one point, the US tried to make Veteran’s Day, a three day weekend...even moved it to October.

Living veterans in my family include my step-brothers Rob USMC, Ray USMC, and Tommy US Navy.
My sister, Leigh US Navy. My nephew, Curtis USAF. My niece, Stephanie USMC/Kuwait.
My Uncle Fred and Uncle Glen... served in Vietnam, both wounded/shot in action.
My Uncle Kenny USAF/Korea.

8:57 AM
Blogger Molly said...

Ziggy - Hank & Danny aren't "guests". I guess that hasn't sunk in for you yet. New lead singer for HL needs more practice time. Not too long ago, I recall a guitarist in another band not starting right away for the same reason. I don't know the details, but I do believe the guesting N.O.T. lead singer is moving out of the area and therefore will be unavailable to "guest".

JDH - have fun tonight! When might the December schedule be up on your site?

Web - I still don't think Pickler is all that talented.

9:07 AM

I'm not saying she will or she won't, but let's have a convo about her same time next year.

P.S. - Don't let release numbers fool you. Check the billboard status in January. After talking with AR and promotion people, those debut numbers are easily manipulated.

GOOD MORNING!

Another day crammed full of tasks, driving through the countryside, and appointments. I have a BRIGHT spot scheduled...Amen!

Today, I will be speaking at a Senior Center. I booked this speaking engagement 3 months ago. I specifically requested the day before Thanksgiving.

The center's calendar misprinted the title of my presentation. It says "Be Grateful"...the title is actually "I'm Grateful".

I'm grateful for senior adults. Grateful for their sacrifices and contributions to the greatest nation in the world.

The mothers of the "baby boomers" will hear that "I'm Grateful" for the doors they opened, the path they led, and the strength they passed down to their daughters.

The fathers will be thanked for defending our country, building our infrastructure, perfecting transportation, taking on labor issues, and maintaining the crop to feed us all.

The ladies will recall serving our country in the workforce building the tanks and air crafts during the war...and then birthing and taming the suburbs.

I choose to speak to them for the many many blessings in my lifetime. "I'm Grateful".

Sadly, too many "blessings" of the greatest generation will be alone tomorrow....

November 23, 2006

Truthfully, I LOVE to cook. I cannot seem to get away from the tradition of the holiday. Mr. Webster was stunned to find a turkey in the fridge. I plan to make the "traditional" meal tomorrow.

Today...Mr. Webster and I are hosting a pumpkin pie social at a senior center for the "shut-ins". Their meals were delivered yesterday in cardboard trays to be nuked at their convenience. This year we are expecting 45-50 to join us in the dining room with their "meals on wheels" for pumpkin pie and hazelnut coffee.

Mr. Webster helped bake pies last night...he watched the timer, and took the last one out of the oven at 10:31, maybe @ 10:32. I have no clue...I went to bed at 9:31, and was asleep at 9:32.
Have a GREAT day! Be sure to thank the seniors in your path, for EVERYTHING they have contributed to our society and our way of life.
They are STILL the greatest generation.

As far as 98.3 The Bull prize...an overwhelming majority of Cleveland Country Blogspot readers appreciated the attempt to give local Cleveland country artists air play.

Ya have to admit...looking back, there were plenty of issues with the process...PERIOD.

We got our "L" clash...thanks!
It was the only REAL 98.3 The BULL clash...competitive, and basically fair.

We put 98.3 The BULL on the map outside of fillpen Ashtabula and Pittspuke....PERIOD.

I am willing to bet real money we raised their ratings. Despite my loathe of clear channel, I played along. My rose colored glasses rationale; 98.3 The BULL was going to play your record more than once.

Honestly, 98.3 The BULL gave ya all a better shot than WGAR, who BTW have been using you as slave labor for years. WGAR gave ya all name recognition, but 98.3 The BULL gave ya airplay...PERIOD.

What a flippen gorgeous day. First...I slept-in.

Good Lord...we are thankful we did NOT lose a family member over the holiday...a horrible, frightening chocking incident, complete with a rescue squad and GOD. Bless her heart...

Thankful for the weather.
Can I get an Amen on that?
Mr. Webster and I are sooo way ahead of schedule with the holiday thing. Got the Christmas lights UP, the deer assembled, and the bows attached. Christmas shopping has been a breeze...almost done.

The yard is in tip-top shape! Mr. Webster is VERY proud, and knows he has saved a ton of money on the spring clean-up. Planted mums. Made a turkey pot pie for dinner. Mr. Webster loved it! Yeaaa!

Yippy, skippy the laundry is done.
I'm in my jammies...life is GOOD, and so much to be thankful for.

Thanksgiving 2006 was ALMOST perfect.

I am saddened this morning.

I've been a huge sports fan for as long as I can remember. Before ESPN exploded there was only one place to get your sports highlights and that was the local TV news. I watched him religiously every night to see how the Tribe, Browns or Cavs had faired that day, see a few other clips from around the leagues and get all the scores. He always ended his spot with his trademark "pen flip" and the words "we're rounding third and headin' home".

He has finally made it home after a fight with Pancreatic Cancer. He was only 55.

You are right...it is a sad day for Clevelanders. Casey was the man in Cleveland sports. Rounding third and safe at home.

You are right...Thanksgiving should be everyday. Hope you get the ladder of your dreams for Christmas.

You are right...the best plans are the plans NOT written in stone. Thanks for the Elvis Anniversary card.

Have you hmmmed long enough? Saddle Ridge gypted a band.
Since when do you moderate and sugar coat your own opinions.
Tip toeing around the bull too.
Where is the real Webster?

Casey Coleman was one of the good guys and got a raw deal when he was canned from TV. I couldn't even tell you who replaced him.

Good Morning

There does NOT appear to be a "Clashing Country" this week. Has the whole concept been abandoned? Maybe.
How many no-name unsigned country music artists could they possibly add to their playlist without getting caught?

Casey Coleman was a Cleveland sports icon to many. The tributes have been a blast from the past and bittersweet especially the coverage from Channel 8.
Was Casey was fired from Channel 8 over his supportive position/commentary regarding Art Model taking the Browns to Baltimore? Could be...it certainly wasn't a popular position, especially in the immediate aftermath. Hating/blaming Model was easier and made better sound bites...than investigating and waiting for the truth. Truth always takes longer.

Welcome back...is there something in particular I can help you with?

Clashing Country
NO evidence of a clash this week...on 98.3 The BULL.
It was a quick scan...but I could NOT find the Clashing Country link on their main page. I did get a personalized message from Roger McCoy today...thanks to my bull pen membership. How may of those did we produce for ya??? HUH...didn’t hear ya.

Hey Mrs. Webster,
We here at 98.3 The BULL want to personally invite you to our Country Christmas Bash at Jewels Dance Hall on Saturday, December 23rd! We're bringing in Cody McCarver, Lawless, and Cedar Creek to play all night for you.
The doors open at 7pm and the boys from McCoy in the Morning will be dressing up as Santa and his elves (yeah...better leave the kids home for this one) to pass out the Christmas presents from Country Living Connection of Remax Destination in Jefferson, Fulltime Indoor Inflatable Playground, and The BULL's Christmas Closet.

Don't wait...or you'll miss your chance to keepChristmas Country with Cody McCarver, Lawless, Cedar Creek, Jewels Dance Hall, and 98.3 The BULL!

I have to say that Roger and the staff over at 98.3 are working hard to help establish us over there in Eastern OH. and Western PA.

Props to "The Bull"! Maybe we can be "their boys" now, and we can use nepotism and..........etc, etc, etc.

Haven't heard that run of crap in a while and thought it could use a reset! LMAO

Did I say there was anything WRONG with the "personalized", mail merge generated bulletin from Roger McCoy?
IMHO; given OUR history of WHO said what, and how easily YOU jump to conclusions and run amuck...please allow me to clarify.
NO...I did NOT say there was anything wrong with the content of 98.3 The BULL message.
Obviously!
I posted it and linked it. Perhaps, after your proclamation that you would NEVER even look at this blog again (LOL), ya missed the post stating "unwavering" support of Lawless.

Most readers received their very own "personalized" message from Roger via mandatory bull pen membership to vote in the Country Clashes. For the record...my issue is I have been receiving the "personalized" messages for months, however I NEVER received a confirmation email (NOT ONE) while voting in the Country Clashes.

JDH
Yes dear...it could be nepotism. The resemblance between you and Roger is uncanny. Brothers...

Once again I have tried to offer an input to a blurb and get reminded of our past Web! Well I will just move my little ass right along now with my tail between my legs. Didn't mean to imply you had a problem with it it was in the form of a question. Nice job JDH and company. Merry New Year ALL.

It was a technical difficulty of some sort....like a CD was skipping over and over and over. Totally annoying but it only took about 15 minutes for them to fix it this time.

Blogger jdh said...

It's funny when that happens! They don't even use CD's anymore though. Everything is done on a PC and the only time you have a live jock is Mantel & Michelle in the morning and Chuck in the afternoon usually. Most of the time the other programming is recorded prior to the airing. All they have to do now is their little blurbs because everything else is programmed into the PC. I watched someone record a 3 hour show in 20 minutes at "The Bull", and it was the next day's show at that!

Nataline Maines has been as nice as she could possibly stomach during their tour.

I have read every review of every concert here and abroad. Natalie Maines is NOT ready to make nice, it's evident, but she DOES know how behave in public.

The Dixie Chick concert Mr. Webster and I attended was flippen AWESOME!!! We knew we made the right concert decision as far as the entertainment budget.

The Dixie Chick event was LIKE a freaken holy experience. We knew why we were there and felt their JOY...

Feeling the same way about the Grammy Nominations. JOY!

More JOY...Oscar buzz is starting for the Dixie Chicks "Shut-up and Sing" documentary.
