Cleveland Country...Remembers!

The Dixie Chicks are expected to open at the # 1 on the U.S. pop album charts. The defiant first single, "Not Ready to Make Nice," bombed at country radio.

It speaks volumes about how wide the chasm is between the Dixie Chicks and country music.

The Dixie Chicks have found themselves defending country music to friends who saw it as a close-minded, conservative genre that had little variety or tolerance for differing opinions.

"I want (the new album) to be successful to prove to myself that the music matters," says Maines, "and radio and organized far right people can't determine your destiny."

Evans won for Top Female Vocalist. Underwood won for Top New Female Vocalist and Single
Record of the Year.

Aldean won for Top New Male Vocalist and Sugarland won for Top New Duo or Vocal Group.

Top Male Vocalist, Keith Urban also had had back-to-back wins. He was honored in the same category last year.

Brooks & Dunn won their 20th and 21st Academy of Country Music Awards

Rascal Flatts' win for Top Vocal Group was their fourth in as
many years.

ULTIMATE Bad Day...Katherine!
ULTIMATE day of his life...Taylor!

I have never been a Katherine fan.

Kathrine...was a hit with the judges, but not with the Webster household.

Kathrine...All is Fair in Love. Hated the outfit and the song.

Katharine...Freedom, McFever was better this week than last.

Katherine...Until You Come Back to Me, much better than her first whirl with Wonder.

Katherine...Ella Fitzgerald, didn't see her performance.

Katherine...OVERATED and feeling much better about "Suds in a Bucket".

Katherine...way up in the pre-lim polls, still OVERATED.

Katharine McPhee, Who Wants to Live Forever: "How could (this) not be fun? We're working with so many different legends."

Katherine...not one of my favorites, Somebody to Watch Over Me was AWESOME.

Katherine...I Have Nothing, she wasn't signing about her cleavage.
Katherine

"Somewhere Over the Rainbow" brought the house down, and was said to be the best vocal performance of the season.
Her personal choice: "I Ain"t Got Nothing but the Blues" not so good! The gesturing was awkward and resembled her high school spring concert.

I never thought Taylor would be the next American Idol.

Grey guy/Joe Cocker is NOT the next American Idol, but is entertaining to watch and the harmonica entrance was awesome. There is something about his soul.

Taylor/grey cocker guy...is on soul patrol, loved Levon, he'll be fun to watch for the next few weeks.

Grey Cocker Guy...he's Easy Like Sunday Morning. His goose bump showcase changes his life forever.

Grey Cocker Guy...AWESOME!, he will NEVER have to be the Easter Bunny again.

Taylor...Living for the City, still on soul patrol and still a top vote getter.

Taylor...Fade Away, still has grey hair, not his best, disappointed, thought he would choose Ray Charles.

Taylor...Trouble, the song, not the polls. He's still on soul patrol and still a contender.

Taylor...struggled with Country Roads. Am I the only person that thought he should have done Wave on Wave with that soulful voice?

Taylor Hicks, Crazy Little Thing Called Love: "You listen to a Queen song, it's really melodic and very powerful, and the dynamics (are) really cool."

Taylor...You Send Me, love this song, soul patrol is live and well. From cabaret to magic.
SNL spoofed him this week. His IDOL line is still busy.

Taylor... Just Once, didn't it look like he was trying to control his "soul"?

Taylor...Who'd a thunk it! He could very easily be the next American Idol.
All three of his performances were AWESOME. "Try a Little Tenderness"...Amen brother! "You are so Beautiful"...OMG! Special permission granted by Bruce Springsteen to sing "Dancing in the Dark".

Last night, American Idol featured Taylor's audition, when asked by Simon, "Why are you here?"...Taylor said "I want my voice to be heard".

dialidol.com has Taylor as the clear winner.

I would have to blame the school. They are supposed to have policies in place about giving out information about students and staff. I'm sure your pervert would have found another way to get his info, but in THIS case...the school!

AND...what was a high school student doing out til 3 a.m.?
Where were the PARENT(S)????

5:11 PM
Blogger Mrs. Webster said...

Society will blame her mother...statisically she's a single mother.
I have raised boys...God knew what he was doing there: 24 and 22. I was single the majority of their lifetime.

Michael
You should know the answer to this question.
The predator is at fault and the most culpable. The school bears responsibility for releasing her personal information. However, if he was chatting with her, she may have inadvertently released her own information.
She should have not been out till 3AM as a high school student. Her mother will be blamed. The genuine unruliness of teenagers should be taken under consideration.

Predators exist, and they attack all age groups, all vulnerabilities and weaknesses. This story could have been a 22/32/42/52 YO, out with her friends till 3AM.
myspace is the most popular web site among 12-25 YO's according to most reputable marketing research polls. Predators know that.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Soul singer Taylor Hicks won the 2006 "American Idol" contest on Wednesday, beating ballad singer Katharine McPhee in votes cast by fans of the most watched TV show in the United States.

Hicks, 29, whose prematurely graying hair and manic dancing has made him been a consistent favorite among the show's 30 million regular viewers, won a coveted recording contract and will release a single called "Do I Make You Proud."

Happy 4th of July.
Today is Independence Day...7/4/05

Curiously, Websterscountry was inspired from several angles. The dictionary was shelved just above eye level at my computer station. The light went off in my head. More about that later.

A book of words with definitions, and a user of the world wide web "webster"...and of course my fascination with the ever changing Cleveland country music scene and words.

What does Webster say?
The dictionary, that is...

Independence Day: A civil holiday for the celebration of national independence and commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

The struggle to break free from colonial status inspired the Declaration of Independence and provided the basis of the US Constitution and Charters of Freedom.

Charters of Freedom brought us the Bill of Rights. First and foremost is the freedom of unabridged speech.

Today is a celebration of freedoms. My personal favorite is "freedom of speech" Freedom to speak/write/web/post/blog without censorship, editing or moderating.

This blog is a direct result of posts being moderated and then rejected or removed. Our liberties and privileges we celebrate today were born from a voice of dissent.

Your voice and words are welcome.
Come blog with me!!

Who'd a Thunk it?

Grey/Cocker Guy, Taylor Hicks won the 2006 "American Idol". He captured my heart early on...as well as the votes of millions of viewers.

The "grey horse" was told in auditions that he was too old (29) to be the next American Idol, and was referenced to a "drunk" uncle. His dream was to have his voice heard.
Today...he's living the ULTIMATE dream.

"Harmonica Hicks", "Grey Cocker Guy", won a coveted recording contract, a new Ford Mustang and will release his first single in a matter of days.
Taylor said "I didn't have any idea that Americans would embrace grey hair as much as they have."
My position on grey hair is well established. Don't let grey hair fool ya. Music in your soul...is music in your soul.

Katherine said she had not expected to win. On the red carpet last night, she looked and played the part of second place. She is expected to land a record deal.

"Taking the Long Way": The Dixie Chicks, one of the biggest - and most controversial - acts to come along in country music in the past decade, are about to find out how much of a country career they have left with a new CD, "Taking the Long Way," in stores Tuesday.

You might remember that everything was going just fine with the Chicks until one of them dared to express a political opinion, and the world practically stopped rotating. The group addresses what happened on the CD's first single, "Not Ready To Make Nice," a song that hasn't exactly helped them ease back onto country radio. The fact that rock producer Rick Rubin came aboard for "Taking the Long Way" may mean the Dixie Chicks have more on their minds than mending country fences anyway. (KCJ)

A tiny White House commission has spent five years and $1.5 million trying to bring a new American tradition to Memorial Day's barbecues, parades and sales: A moment of remembrance, a sigh, perhaps a prayer. Just a 30-second pause.

As executive director of the commission and White House liaison, Ms. LaSpada receives about $165,000 in salary and benefits, according to federal reports.

***May I be so bold as to suggest that Americans are faithful in their remembrance of family and friends. This $1.5 million could have been more wisely spent on "Meals on Wheels" for senior adults that have served our country...instead the funding has been cut by 18% in the past two years.

Memorial Day 2006

We attended our hometown Memorial Day parade. In the midst of hundreds of people...not one individual advised us on being real Americans.

Today at noon, we hosted a strawberry shortcake social with 18 widows and 3 veterans.

We honored my grandmother. She served in the Royal Navy as a nurse during WW II.

We remembered our fathers. Mr. Webster's father served in the Calvary (horseback) in 1929, and was called up again during WW II.
Mine...survived three tours in Nam. He retired from the United States Navy with 25 years of service/active duty. He died in 1988 at the age of 49 from a "rare" nephritic cancer. The carcinogen has since been linked to foliage killers...agent orange.

Mr. Webster and I discussed his year of eligibility...1969. Draft number 257.

This evening, we will be attending a quaint concert sponsored by the Lorain Country Vietnam Memorial Foundation.

OK...the mail matters

Yes...there are plenty of Vietnam veterans that have led productive and quality lives. NOT EVERYONE IS DEAD OR IN JAIL. The emails clarifying that for me weren't necessary.
Mr. Webster is referring to his personal friends, mostly high school buddies (Woodward/Toledo), and musician "inner circles".

Yes...I will stop with the "I am a real American"...if you stop challenging my patriotism and love for my country.

No...I cannot and will not confirm that for you. Please STOP trying to bait me...it never turns out well.
