Is it SPRING yet?

Loving the month of March already...no need to spell check.

March 2006 archives...words said, words posted, and words protected.
By the 2006 IDES...Cleveland country had run amok, and still has NOT recovered.

I thought it was supposed to reach 50 today. If it did, it was before 1:00 and then went downhill. I was cold at lunch !!! Can't wait to lay by the pool and drink beer and listen to county music. That's what I'm waiting for....beer and sunshine.

Good Morning
The sun is shining, and I can see our backyard.

It's green! Flowers are sprouting, trees are budding, birds are chirping, and a wood pecker has found treasures out there somewhere.

If I didn't know better...I would proclaim SPRING has arrived.

It's been a wild week outside the blog bubble. Most women my age are slowing down...me I'm back on the fast track in corporate America. Thought I was too old, too set in my ways, and way too LEFT. NOT so!

Mr. Webster is adjusting to my hectic schedule without complaint.
I missed his first gig at the Parma Tavern last night. I was sound asleep before his first set ended.

Good Lord...I can barely remember a thing he said about the Parma Tavern, or who he ran into.
According to my phone log, we chatted for 8 minutes. LOL!

Here's what I do remember; he loves me and he wants to venture out to ACE's tonight!

Hey all...

I see ya all have been straggling in all day long.

We did NOT make it to ACE's last night.
For the 194the time; LOVE this PLACE. Although, I have NOT personally seen the bathrooms that have the ladies curtains ruffled.

We had a plan, with objectives, steps and timelines.

Seeing Foot/Backwoods appeared to be obtainable when we left small town America.

The truth is...we had trouble getting past the PASTA.
We had to wait 25 minutes for a table, and hours for dinner...we indulged gratuitously.
It was late...we VOTED to go WEST where the flying monkeys dwell.

BTW: From a REVENUE stand point...bike nights do very well!
Play some SYNYRD!

The Girls are at Willoughby Brewing tonight.

Today is a horrific anniversary in country music history: In 1963, Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Cowboy Copas, and Randy Hughes died in a plane crash in Camden, Tenn.

On a local level...it ain't too pretty either. Ya see, a year ago today was the LAST time Mr. Webster guested with Laredo.
That in of itself is NOT a big deal.
It's what we witnessed first hand at Willoughby Brewing from Ross/Todd regarding the "mutual decision" to release Frank to Backwoods.
We were stunned...at the petty remarks, laughing, mocking and general disregard for a human being.

Why do I sift through the archives...you ask?
Why do I keep re-hashing?
Cause it ain't resolved!
I've been stewing for a year...and my wrath was exacerbated January 1, 2007.

Ya see, I am a vindictive biotch, and quite honestly, I am OK with that. It's the truth!
It's ALL the happy horse sh#t, that comes from the SOT corral that isn't true...

Todd said...
Yes, we have made a change in the band. With a mutually agreed decision Frank is no longer with Laredo. But, as stated by Foot he will be playing with Backwoods. We wish Frank the best of luck. Our new lead guitar player is Todd "T-Bone" Baker. If you all want to know more about him come on out to a show and meet him. We also will have more info on our site soon. There you all heard it from the horses mouth.

Let it go...you say!
YOU WISH!
The Frank story is just the beginning. The campaign to malign myself and my husband started a year ago and continues to this very minute.

Blogger Molly said...

Morning to all! (Posters and those who refuse to admit they read included).

Web, on one hand I'd say SOT is so not worth an ounce of your time. On the other hand, everyone knows the "mutual decision" spin was a lie and it shows that decency is not alive and well in their neck of the woods. They'll say ANYTHING to try and make themselves look better.

Ya don't want anyone to know what your thinking...but ya post it?

7:07 PM
Blogger cowboy said...

I am a huge fan of Cleveland Country "Music"... and I guess that the bantering goes with it..

however, a lot of it sounds a bit foolish.

It's hard to say one band is "better" then another..

Comparing John and Todd is like comparing a classic Chevy pick-up to a Toyota Tacoma.

I won't say which is which...

But let's just say that the styles and presentation differ slightly..

Is one better then the other?

Even though they sing many of the same songs.. they are not the same style.

Is John more charismatic? Without a doubt... even when he gets up at 4am for a morning tv show. (Yeah, you have had some amusing debates on here.)

However,...

Todd brings a different approach...

Is Kenny Chesney a "better" country singer then Trace Adkins?

Now - I can only imagine the howls that all of you in the peanut gallery are making..

NO - I am not saying that Todd sounds or looks like Trace Adkins... nor am I saying JD is the next Kenny Chesney.

Its just apples and oranges...

I cannot imagine Todd singing Purple Rain... but there are a few songs better suited for him then JD.

And yeah, I happen to enjoy both.

Then again... there are times that I would like to hear something a little different...

How about Backwoods? A touch of classic country...

There are the boys from Canton - Tony Rio and Relentless... they have yet another sound.. and put on a great show.

What's more annoying, though..

is how personal people seem to make this "conflict".

I know them both - and yeah, I think that they are both pretty decent fella's.

Neither are saints - but then again neither are as bad as the various rants presented on here and on other venues.

Anyways...

enough rambling..

But I figured that I would jump in with a splash!

I hate the war, I think the Commander/CEO is in jaw-dropping denial. I detest Clear Channel...and they detest me.

If ya could go back to the beginning, ya would read that Cleveland Country Blogspot started out as Webster's Country Diary. The original archive is unavailable to most.

The content I am directly responsible for will ALWAYS be personal and from my perspective. It's my diary and OP/ED.

This season is the second year I have been referencing votefortheworst.com.

My post from Thursday

Webster said:
March 15, 007

Bye Bye Brandon and Sanjaya is safe.

Howard Stern has joined the ranks of votefortheworst; and encouraged his audience to vote for Sanjaya.

The votefortheworst folks are quite pleased with themselves, as they continue to gain notoriety, and more and more IDOL haters join the bandwagon.

Who knew there were enough disgruntled struggling "artists", dysfunctional bar bands, jealous former friends, and spiteful IDOL outcasts...to affect the outcome.

The ultimate goal of votefortheworst is for Sanjaya to be the next American Idol...

They will have to settle for Sanjaya in the TOP ten...which is still an atrocity.

Morning
A touch of chaos...love that!

votefortheworst.com was NOT birthed as a result of a rebellion against the masses, protesting exploitation, or dissenters of corporate America.
Sure...it looks that way now.
The creators of votefortheworst camped outside of an arena with thousands and thousands of other American Idol hopefuls.

If I remember correctly; Basically, votefortheworst was started by a couple of rejected wanabe IDOL contestants that did NOT make it past the initial arena screeners.

The crux of the biscuit...they are of the belief they possessed more talent than those that were passed on to the next phase of screening and eventually "cast" for the show.

Good evening campers!

First of all, It was really great seeing Mr & Mrs Web St. Patty's Day at Ace's! I never fail to leave our talks without feeling much better about things in general! There's always the fact that I love the both of you, too!
Molly & TKF were a pleasure to talk with and see as always!

Now, BEFORE THE VICIOUS RUMORS START......
Backwoods was scheduled to play Ace's this Friday.
We will not be there.
I am having VERY minor surgery on my foot (insert your joke of choice here) and cannot perform.
The fine members of the Curtis Brothers agreed to give up their night off to fill in.
THERE IS NO CONSPIRACY.
I AM NOT GOING TO DIE.
I AM NOT READY TO RETIRE.

I just need to get my foot fixed!
(Insert second joke of your choice)

We WILL be appearing at Ace's (bandaged if necessary) on Wednesday the 28th.

Thank you in advance for your concern, and your understanding!

NOT down on Aces...just NOT sure!
Funny that Blue Moose was brought up...kinda the same problem.

We left early St. Patrick's Day, cause I refused to use the ladies facilities...again. I have closets bigger than the space provided.

Wet, disgusting, bath towels all over the floor of the shoebox sized ladies room.

OH, and the green foam oozing from underneath 2 of the 3 stalls was quite enough for me.

Then...the gals that entered that bacteria laden toxic zone and left without washing their hands. ICK!!

Of course, I have seen WORSE bathrooms, but NOT where FOOD is being served/consumed.

7:05 AM
Blogger Mrs. Webster said...

Ernie

Well...I think I have handled pretty well.

Cowboy
Welcome back...

7:10 AM
Blogger cowboy said...

I don't know about the ladies room - but I am still waiting for someone to tell me of a better place...

I understand that Keith Anderson is playing out at the Wedge - in Austintown, which is why I was asking about that.

I also have not made it out to Jewels yet... well, not in the last few years since it has been "re-done".

And if we are judging bars based upon their bathrooms.... I'd hate to think of where we all might end up at... Fox n Hound? They seem to have the cleanest bathrooms of any "bars" I have seen.

I started hanging out at Aces over the past year, because I don't think that there is a better bar in Cleveland for Country music. Nothing personal, and I am open to suggestions for something better.

And don't even mention the Ridge... I stopped going to the Mining Company years ago.. Pretty much when I turned 18. Any place that has more SouthPole sweatshirts or backwards Chicago White Sox hats turned backwards is NOT a country bar.

The Dusty Armadillo is pretty cool - for a Pittsburgh bar... but I have to admit that I am not really big on the adrenaline induced line dancing... reminds me of a scene from the movie Ants. (What can I say - I have kids!) And for that drive - I might as well hit "River Knights" down in Fayetteville, WV - for a REAL country bar.

Slam Jams in North Olmsted? Yeah, pretty much the entire "country crowd" on Fridays (do they still do that?) is there for the Bull Riding Strippers that take stage for their weekly contest.

Blue Moose - yeah, enough said. That has to be the dirtiest place in town that serves food... the owner is always the drunkest guy in the bar... and yeah, I would rather have a bartender that is dressed and actually serves drinks then a flock of Jessica Simpson wanna-be's that can't count past 2 drinks.

Yeah, I guess that I am being rather rude here... but not intentionally... just ranting early this morning...

figured that I would "jump in" once again.

So - you tell me...

If ACES is not the place for local country music.. where is?

(I will try to leave shorter posts in the future.)

8:08 AM
Blogger cowboy said...

I don't think that you have to have a live band everynight to be a country bar...

Anymore then the Dusty Armadillo is not a country bar for having male strippers dancing to Lionel Richie on Thursdays.

8:44 AM
Blogger Molly said...

Blue Moose is just plain nasty and when they tacked on a $20 tip to my tab (after I signed for it) and ran it through on my debit card, they lost all of my respect as a decent establishment.

I've only been to Jewel's once but really enjoyed it there. Never been to the Dusty. Saddle Ridge is overpriced and does remind me TOO much of the Mining Co. or, going back even longer, Dixie Electric! lol I think the Ace's website does state that they are a "country/sports bar". So, I feel that they have "committed" to being a country bar. I like the place a lot but yes, the ladies room on St. Patrick's Day WAS disgusting and it's a shame that the ladies room had to be downsized so much to make room for a buffet area. Hopefully they'll get their plumbing problems under control.

I think that Slam Jams still has Friday night country.

9:13 AM
Blogger Molly said...

Good point, Whynner. I have heard PLENTY of hip hop at Ace's. If it's not Wed., Fri. or Sat. with a band playing, they play just about anything. Go there for dinner on a Mon. or Tues. and you're lucky to hear ANY country. Perhaps that falls under the "sports bar" part of Ace's.

9:17 AM

The Boot wasn't even a 100% country bar. I really can't remember, but weren't they only open like Thursday-Sunday? And on Sundays, they had teen dance night. We all know how that went for them.

The cold, hard truth is... We live in Cleveland (or in the Cleveland area). A 100% country bar really isn't feasible, nor would it be viable.

Many have come and gone and more will come and go. Nobody's ever been able to make it work.

I REALLY hope somebody proves me wrong, but they haven't yet.

Maybe the new place will do it. They seem to have the right support w/ Foot & Mr. Web!

I would love to see some of you folks running your own bar.. or "country bar"...

especially when it comes to managing people.

Don't know about NoBeer's story - but I am pretty sure that if everyone drank "No-Beer"... it would be hard to pay for any bands to play at local joints'.

And I can't think of A SINGLE local bar that has done more to help prevent late night problems then Aces.

They put out a FREE breakfast buffet at the end of the night and one of the main reasons is to keep intoxicated people from roaming the streets, etc.. If you have ever been there late, you see everyone sitting down and relaxing the last hour there. Even the most devout power drinkers settle down and enjoy breakfast.

How cool is that?!

And yes, the food is enjoyable. Oh, and did I mention that they DON'T CHARGE a dime for it. They don't even require you to buy anything else.

I also don't think that one person's observation of a single employee not washing their hands translates to a place not being sanitary.

I enjoy going to Aces because I don't think that there is a better country bar in Cleveland. There is always a good mix of people and generally less idiots then most of the other places.

I am still waiting to hear from the people bashing Aces' as to where they go... that perfect place where the employee's are all perfect and there are never maintenance issues...

Where they can afford to have country bands every night of the week without ever charging a cover charge...

If there is such a place.. I would love to hear of it... and I would be the first to give it props'.

Unfort - I am not sure that there is such a place...

so, I guess that we are left waiting until No-Beer opens her place.....

NOT a big deal. The DEA reference is inaccurate. On the other hand, any human who thinks, NOT washing their hands in a bacteria laden toxic zone is NOT a big deal, deserves every gastrointestinal disease known to man.

For the 178th time...ACE's is a great venue for country music in Cleveland.

I was not taking a shot at the "Webster's".

While I certainly don't agree with the bosses' position on certain bands and singers' - I don't take it personally or anything close.

And, YES, servers should wash their hands.. but a guest should simply point this out to management, not hold it against the owners as a slight on the entire establishment.

So, how was Slim n Chubbies?

Cowboy...
Generally speaking...ya need to get off your high horse. Ya might fool some of the people some of the time, but ain't foolin me.

The ACE's management you speak so highly of...is NOT playing with a full deck. Instead of cleaning up the backed up toilets and green vomit on the floor, they chose bath towels. DAH!

Your information regarding Fat Fish Blue is NOT inaccurate.

First...it is doubtful the DEA would be involved in a simple drug bust. They kinda have their hands busy with meth labs, South American/Caribbean importation of narcotics and major drug trafficking organizations.

Second...Swamp Boogie Band has had a steady gig at Fat Fish Blue since 1999. In addition to a familiar relationship with management, managing partners, and proprietary investors for 8 years.

Third...no criminal/civil/federal court records or indictments exist directly involving FFB.
Given ya can kind find someones parking ticket in about ten minutes, seems odd that a bust of the magnitude, you authoritatively speak of, can NOT be found anywhere.

Fourth...A DEA/FBI, DOJ/AGO, or even a Cleveland Police raid would certainly be NEWS.
NADA/ZILCH/not even in the trades.

I don't doubt FFB has had issues with narcotics, crime, or prostitution given it's downtown Ontario/Huron location.

However, your assertion that cocaine is falling from the rafters on any given night is totally inaccurate and kinda absurd.

Furthermore, Steve Zamborsky is NOT amused by your insistence his office was raided by the DEA.

Sorry - don't even know who "the Websters" are to take a shot at them...

I think that this Blog is great - and I appreciate the amount of time that the Mrs. clearly puts into it.

And I generally don't pull many punches.. not one of my better traits. ;)

I enjoy reading this Blog - but was just bothered by how "polarizing" it seems to be on some subjects.

So - I commented. Not sure what anyone thinks that I was trying to fool them with...

If anything I have been far too blunt...

Do I think that they guys at Aces are perfect, not at all. I just think that they have a great bar.

Just as FFB is a fun place, but I don't think that there are a bunch of Saints running the place. I am good friends with many of the people that have managed the place over the years - and I think that its one of the great venues in Cleveland. I am there EVERY Fat Tuesday and virtually anytime I hit the Gund.

And no Virginia, this is NOT me backtracking.. but just clarifying my point.
