Reality Check...

Two weeks prior to his Congressional appearance, the top U.S. commander, Gen. David Petraeus, was quoted as saying the troop increase has sharply reduced sectarian killings in Baghdad. That would be on or about August 29, 2007.

In August alone; at least 1,809 civilians were killed.

Umm...520 people were killed in horrific quadruple suicide bombings on August 14.
The SINGLE deadliest day since the war began in March 2003.

It should be no surprise that I agree with most of the LIB pundits on the Petraeus ad...

But GOOD LORD they are correct...instead of focusing on any worthy legislation, or a plan for Iraq...they are still whining about the moveon.org ad.

Where was all this indignation when Rush said the same thing about Senator Hagel.
Hagel, a moderate Republican is a critic of the war and happens to be a decorated veteran officer of Vietnam.
Rush referred to him as Senator Betrayus for days.

As far as I am concerned, the truth ALWAYS takes longer.

This Blackwater thing bugs me!

NOT the most recent event, everyone is talking about...the whole enchilada.

Erik Prince is a billionaire right-wing Christian fundamentalist and the co-founder of Blackwater.
This guy is sooo whacked with his core values and mission statements.

HIS ideology to spread Christianity through mercenaries...has him on my radar.
Is that what Jesus would want- “guns for hire” ?

Washington must think money grow on trees...

Our government/tax dollars, has paid $100 MILLION more to Blackwater than was budgeted for...so far!
Can you imagine a CEO overspending like this in the private sector?

Blackwater has received multiple very lucrative no-bid contracts in Afghanistan and New Orleans after hurricane Katrina.
This “guns for hire” firm has pulled down at least $320 million in Iraq alone.
How many more private "military" firms are we paying for?

NOT so few or proud...
The irony for the US military is that many of its best soldiers leave to join organizations like Blackwater where the pay is as high as $1000 a day.

Sounds more like “guns and greed” than the standard mantra of a “few and proud”.

Is our government using private contractors to overcome military staff shortages?

Reports indicate there as many as 100,000 of these “hired guns” in the combat theaters.
Ummm...crossing over into Iran?

Is the US military privatizing its missions to avoid public controversy or to avoid embarrassment or worse yet to run under the radar of the media?

Rush is the PHONY!

Unless you have been sleeping under a Black River rock...

Ya MUST have heard about Rush proclaiming for anyone who will listen, we have “phony soldiers” in our active military ranks.

Ummm…he was NOT referencing Blackwater.

Yeppers, on Wednesday 9/26/07, he actually said...
Any service members who advocate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq are "phony soldiers."
Media outlets are reporting the transcripts have since been edited.

Then...

Rush returned to smearing Rep. Jack Murtha, and expanded the group of "phony soldiers" to this career military man, and decorated Vietnam veteran.

Murtha joined the Marines in 1952 and volunteered for service in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.

Please tell me..who really wants to continue in this religious civil war, other than the fundamentalists, profiteers, King George and Erectile Dysfunctionate Rush?

I will try to remember to refer to him as EDR.

I am NOT a political infant...

I’ve been paying attention to this mess in IRAQ for a long time. Much longer than most...
See the first "LEFT" thread.

A few months of declining casualty rates, does NOT mean victory is around the corner.

We are STILL spending upwards of $10 billion dollars a month in Iraq.

Then, there is a newly emerged report this week of $1B in military equipment LOST in Iraq.

We are talking about tanks, CRATES of machine guns and rocket propelled grenades.

ALL the media outlets are spewing the “good news”...
“Only 37 Americans killed in the month of November.” How is that “good news”?

As I have stated over and over again, the medical advances on the battlefield have saved more lives. For every soldier killed, eight are severely injured/wounded, nearly TRIPLE the ratio in Vietnam.

More GOOD news...
YESTERDAY in Iraq.

Sixty percent of families with troops who have served, say the war in Iraq has not been worth the cost.

Deployments more frequent and have grown longer as troops rotate in and out of the war zone, sometimes up to five times.

The all-volunteer force is older and more married than any before it. More widows and orphans...when is it gonna END?

When will the REAL good news be broadcast?

I am tired of being spoon fed the news.
Don't the MAJOR media networks have a responsibility to get the information to us as it occurs, NOT five days later.

It has NOT been my intent to neglect my "LEFT" rantings on the blog. I have taken my rantings to where they can be heard up close and personal.

So much so...it appears, the Pentagon has began scanning the blog.

The war lingers on without media coverage...thousands of civilians have been annihilated and more than
70 US military service personnel have been killed since January 1, 2008.

We have been force fed "it's the economy stupid" for weeks upon weeks. The Ohio economy tanked long before it was "news".

Meanwhile on Sunday, 40 human beings were killed in Iraq. Did I see on the news, did I read it in the newspaper? NO...I had to look to the foreign press wires to find it.

The new estimate, of the cost of the war is 3.3 TRILLION dollars VS the 50 or maybe 60 BILLION estimated in 2003.

Don't know what's up with the federal government and King George...in the real world, when I am more than $1000.00 dollars "off budget", I am required to generate three reports with detailed explanations as to how I am gonna fix/balance it.

Well, it's OHIO's big day...being dubbed the second super Tuesday.
NOT so sure, Obama will take Ohio...it would be a delightful.
Bottom line...I will support the democratic nominee.

Soon the divide among us must be super glued back together for a sweep in November. The sooner the better.

Hilliary has gone negative...NOT a good plan, given the scattered skeletons in her closet.

Obama is NOT squeaky clean...what politician is?

Last week, in my rural Huron County office...home of the red, white and republican.
The client services coordinator thinks Obama is Muslim and won't put his hand on a bible.
The operations manager is STILL supporting Huckabe.

I travel Northern Ohio extensively. Once you drive a few miles outside of any city limits whether it's Cleveland, Sandusky, Toledo, or Lorain...it's rural.

OK...so the outcome of the second SUPER TUESDAY was NOT exactly as I would have liked to see it.

Last minute calls to friends yesterday to remind them to VOTE, sorta indicated the handwriting on the wall.

Undecideds went to Hillary, or switched to Hilliary in the last 48hours.

For Ohio and maybe Texas too, it appears, folks were persuaded by the last minute Canadian NAFTA memo. The housing deal with Resko never came up.

There is the RUSH factor..."righties" voting for Hilliary in the primary.
Poll after poll shows McCain beating Hilliary in the general election.

As much as a female president appeals to me...I fear it won't be Hilliary.

There is way tooooo much baggage.
Going all the way back to Vince Foster being rolled up in a carpet...add Whitewater, the lesbian thing, and MONICA.

While Hilliary may NOT have been wild about NAFTA, most of the documentation leading up to primaries indicates she was supportive of her husband's trade agreement.

The primary season especially n Ohio, MAY be about ECONOMICS/stupid...it's my belief, that's the way it was presented, literally spoon fed to voters.

The occasional blip about the war might be found on page 38, while the mortgage melt-down, and the lack of job growth is page one.

It's the WAR...stupid!

Question:

Did Hillary have presidential aspirations as far back as her and her husband moving out of the Whitehouse? Because if I were her, I would have divorced my sleazy, cigar toting, cheating husband ASAP.

I would love to say "stand by your man" but REALLY...do you think MONICA was the ONLY one?

How bout the administration is NOT gonna release the NEW, NEWER, NEWEST report dismissing the links between Iraq and 911 to the press unless requested and will NOT be available on-line. They will mail the 600 page report.
DAH...how cost effective can that be?

How about 14 more of our men and women in uniform killed in that civil war sand trap. Eight of them in one day. Remember when 8 killed in one day was a headline.

New day...new scandals. Tired of the Spitzer story.
Today, it should be the GOP chair that has embezzled a million dollars from the campaigns, and funneled the money into his personal accounts.

OK...so now that we have lost almost 4000 men and women to the mission almost accomplished. Cheerfully named Operation Iraqi Freedom, the media is somewhat on target.

Yesterday was the most coverage I've seen in months.
Perhaps, it was the Roman Catholic Arch-Bishop that was kidnapped three weeks ago, found in a shallow grave, that prompted the newsies to take a look see at what the hell has been happening.

In fact, a study was released yesterday on how the coverage of the war has dwindled since the "surge".

The report also acknowledged how few Americans even know what has happened in the past 6 months.

At the time of the "surge", 40% of news (print and cable) was dedicated to war coverage.

In Feb 08...it was 3%.

8:07 AM
Blogger Mrs. Webster said...

OMG...could I have been any MORE wrong bout the news cycle. Here I thought one network would pick up the story bout embezzling a million bucks.

NOPE...we are into day 4 or 5 of Obama's preacher.
On day two I was pretty wound up...

Unlike most lily white folks out there, I have experienced the black church up close and personal.
Not to be outdone by the charismatic evangelicals...ya know the Jew hating homophobes.

Quite honestly, I personally was NOT offended by the Reverend Jeremiah Wright...but was/am aware of the reaction and coverage it would garner.

Social justice requires a fire and brimstone voice.

The folks that believe that ONLY America is blessed are naive.
Good Lord...there are "reverends" with doctorates in Christian theology that believe the world is ONLY 3000 years old, and pass this nonsense on from the pulpit.

NOT only do these folks lack a world view, an inherent disbelief in science, and routinely pontificate about the evils of "homos", abortions and divorces...they lack an understanding of the Christian precepts.

To think that Americans are somehow MORE blessed and will NOT have to atone for our policies and behavior is shameful, and illustrates the distasteful myopic view way too many folks cling to.

I THINK most Democrats want the same thing...to win in the fall.

It's TIME to figure out a way to unite against McCain. He's old, forgets the facts, and wants atonement for the a loss of a war.

We do NOT want the appearance of an old, frail, and forgetful leader of the free world.

We have had tooo many jack-asses in the White House.
Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan included.

McCain = Bush, BOTH jack-asses.

The WAR has to end, and we need to draw down our ground/war troops as soon as feasible.

The blips ya have been hearing bout the war the past few days ain't the half of it.

My post from Easter Sunday 2007...

Every HOLY day in the states is marred by death and destruction in Iraq.
The U.S. military announced the weekend deaths of 10 American soldiers, including six killed on Easter Sunday.

Sen. Joseph Lieberman made the rounds on the Sunday morning talk shows to declare the Baghdad “surge” was effective.

Lieberman's profession of the absurd is based on, Al-Sadr’s (Shiite Cleric) statement to his followers to kill Americans, NOT each other.
"God has ordered you to be patient in front of your enemy, and unify your efforts against them-not against the sons of Iraq". Hmmmmmmm...can YOU take that statement, and find the GOOD news?

Sure, I would like to believe that the surge is making a difference...but it isn’t.

Baghdad might be slightly more secure...however, these people are NOT morons.

They have moved the death, destruction, execution, torture, and chlorine bombs to other areas.

At least 62 bodies, execution victims, who were tortured, were found Northeast of Baghdad last week alone.

A truck bomb exploded, south of Baghdad, killing at least 18 people and wounding 23.

At least 47 people were killed or found dead in violence Easter Sunday, including 17 execution victims dumped in the capital.

Five bodies burned beyond recognition, littered a courtyard and hospitals were treating chlorine exposure/burns.

Which brings me to TRIV...another idiot, proclaiming to the masses with unequivocal authority: "the streets of Cleveland are MORE dangerous than the streets of Iraq." Did the Cleveland Police find 17 dead bodies on Public Square, Easter Sunday?
