Happy Labor Day.

As per our usual routine on a holiday, we spent the afternoon at the senior center for a coffee/dessert social.

As the country jam approaches, I am sure there will be much ado regarding Lawless.
They were finally able to persuade someone they are "worthy" of the main stage.
If ya are looking for their "time slot"...they don't have one. They are the tweeners.

A kid brought in the Cliff Lee poster the Indians gave away at the game yesterday. It lists all the 20+ game winners in Indians' history. We had a 31 game winner in 1920!

Folks,

We are having significant technical problems. Our computer has been invaded. It hasn't crashed yet.

I stand corrected regarding the Lawless "timeslot". My information came from an individual directly associated with the event.
I rarely log-on to the WGAR site.

We are still expereincing technical problems, as well as time management issues.

Don't have a whole lot of time this morning to "share" regarding the Country Jam.

The Savannah Pavillion was the reunion spot.
It was a hoot...blasts from the past.
Both of Mr. Webster's bands, Paresi and Swamp Boggie were well received...booked several gigs right on the spot.

OMG...the former/present students. At least 30.
Friends, fans and foes were spotted. Gossip galore!!!

Did Lawless REALLY request a fee of $3000.00 for the Parma Rock & Rib?

The answer to the question is YES.
Lawless DID request $3000.00 for the Parma Rock & Rib.

The better question is WHY? We can speculate as to WHY Lawless would request that kind of money from fundrasing event with a budget of less than a thousand.

Perhaps, someday, Lawless will hit the event jackpot, or an inexpereinced organizer that doesn't know any better.

Our country band needs a full-time lead guitarist with some vocal ability, experience preferred. We have been together 4 years. We played 70 gigs in 2007, although not quite as busy this year, we average around 3 to 5 gigs per month. Mostly top 40 country with some standards. We have had some great help from some amazing professionals filling in for us, but it's time to find a permanent guitar player. Our travel includes Cuyahoga, Medina, Lorain counties, and on occasion, Sandusky and the Akron area. Call and tell us about yourself... ask for Van (440) 728-0155

We are losing our bass player due to a job change and have cancelled a few gigs to have time to work with someone new. We need a player that is experienced, a quick study, with a good sense of humor, back-up vocals would be an asset, and make this band a priority and not a second project. We play new country, some southern rock and classic rock. Practice is weekly on the westside of Cleveland. Opening is immediate! Please respond with a name and phone number.

CURTIS BROTHERS BAND SEEK KEYBOARDIST AND/OR LEAD VOCALIST

The Curtis Brothers Band, popular Northeast Ohio group, seek keyboardist for a full time position. Vocal abilities and/or multi instrument talents (acoustic, lead or rhythm guitar) are an added plus, but not necessarily required for this gig.

We in all likelihood are also going to be auditioning lead vocalists (male or female) to complete a 5 piece band. Vocalists who play an instrument (especially acoustic, lead or rhythm guitar) is also an added plus, but not necessarily required for the gig. Must be able to understand and sing harmony vocals efficiently !

Our genre is classified as “country” both current and classic, but we have a vast song list and play just about anything as the situation or venue calls for it. This is not specifically all country - we perform everything from Merle Haggard to Pink Floyd.

We only desire individuals who are professional, dedicated, and responsible. Must be available to perform 4 to 8 times per month mostly on weekends, but occasionally on weeknights. Must be able to rehearse an average of once a week, and be prepared !

We practice in the Brunswick area, and perform mostly on the southwest side of Cleveland, and occasionally distances of up to
75 miles at certain venues.

Alcohol and drug problems will not be tolerated. Overwhelming personal problems, egos, tardiness, anything else that distracts from being a dedicated band member will be frowned upon as well.

Individuals must own professional equipment, reliable transportation to rehearsals and shows, professionalism, dedication, and of course talent.

We have many venues and shows booked or on hold, so you must be able to learn a ton of songs very quickly, and be ready to go as soon as possible !

Your pay will be good. We own our own sound system and have little overhead.

If you fit this criteria as a keyboardist and/or lead vocalist and are interested, please reply and list your talents, previous experience, equipment, etc. and include name and phone number and we will contact you for an audition.

F#$@ this town. Me me me me me me me! The list of absurd statements and excuses grows. I absolutely won't play country. Forget it. I won't play if there is a b*^#ch in the band. Why do you want to play Jurassic rock? Your music sucks. My music rocks. What do you mean? My girlfriend loves that song. I can only rehearse on Tuesdays between 8:15-8:30. I want to do my originals and people will pay to hear them too. I don't want to travel more than 2 blocks from my home. I want to practice 2 or 3 times a week but I only want to play once every other month. If I join the band my brother will do sound and lights. I'm a really good drummer but I don't have a car or a job so you'll have to pick me up and take me home for practice and gigs. I just need a singer for this one gig. Its a freebie but it'll be good exposure for my band and the unknown, never to be seen or heard from singer,(insert your name here). Did you say you wanted to play every week? I thought you said every other February 29th as long as my ex will switch weekends with me and I don't have to work that Saturday. You know, after 5 f^&$ing months of rehearsals and cutting demos and taking band photos, I've decided this isn't the direction I want to go. Sorry I haven't shown up for practice or called or emailed anyone in over a month. You see I got a DUI. How that affects my phone or internet I don't know but I wasn't under the influence of alcohol and I have white powder on my upper lip. The guitarist called my wife at work to tell her to tell me to tell you that he quits because he is too much of a pussy to tell you himself. Now that we have this thing just about ready to start booking we've decided to put the old band back together again but with a different bass player. I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it to the gig tonight but call this other guy you've never met and ask him if he still wants to play the gig. The drummer can't make it tonight but my 16 year old son is pretty good and if we can get him to pass for 21 he can do the gig. Oh didn't I tell you? The club double booked for tonight so I told them we would play tomorrow instead. Can you get a hold of the guitarist and let him know? I have my original band back together...except for you on bass... and Steve on guitar...oh yeah, and this really hot, HOT, kid on drums. I have 5 gigs booked in the next month starting Friday. Do you think you can find a guitarist that can sing? Oh, and see if his drummer wants to do it because the guy I've got isn't very good. Son of a bi*#h!!! I know I booked this gig for $400. I think the barmaid is trying to stiff us. She only gave us $225. I have 3 bars that want us to play during the week. The first one will give us $350 to host jam night every Wednesday. The other two want us for bike nights during the week and they'll pay at least $400 but first we have this Saturday for $150. If we do it as a trio that's $50 dollars each and its only one county away. I figured we couldn't pull it off as a trio so I asked this singer to show up but I'll only take $30 so you guys still get $40. Oh man, I f*%$ed up. I shouldn't have drank that much. I forgot the words to everything. It still sounded pretty good though. I don't think anyone really noticed. I just took another solo. I'm sure no one noticed you blurting out one line followed by a 20 minute instrumental version of Texas Flood. What was that line again? "It's flooding down in Texas, all of the something something down." Sorry I didn't get back to you, I was out of town. The drummer just found a guy today. I don't know why the ad got posted again today. I don't know why it'll get posted 3 more times in the next two weeks. Established band in search of 2 guitarists, bass, keys, and a singer. I get out of work at 4:00 so by the time I get home and eat a little something I could be to your place by 7:45, 8:00 at the latest. But I have to leave by 9:00. We don't need a keyboardist. If I put some effects on the guitar it will sound fuller. We could use a harmonizer instead of working out harmonies. Yes I do have problems with my tempo sometimes but I'm getting a new drum set. Its a small place. We can run the vocals through channel 2 on my amp. I know a place just east of East Jabum^#ck that used to have bands. We can probably play a gig for the door. My brother-in-law has a bowling alley and he wants to have bands for Rock and Bowl. I would really appreciate it if you could play this benefit. Can you bring your PA? Do you think your old guitarist would play too? Come up with a setlist and get back to me ASAP. When? The gig is next Friday. The keyboardist says she can't learn all these before next week. Which ones is she having trouble with? She didn't say. We should get a practice in before Friday. She can't rehearse tomorrow and I can't go Wednesday. I'll see who can make it Thursday. Hi, who is this again? You said I just called you 5 minutes ago? .............Oh yeah, Right. Duh! Nevermind. When you didn't call me back I called someone else and he said he could do the gig but I'll keep your number just in case. Lynyrd Cadaver? Maybe now is a good time to tell you I don't like the stones...Lets do that Danny Gatton song again. All take and no give. My way or the highway. There is no compromising with you flakes. Kiss my a*& Cleveland musicians.

Well, such is life in the local music biz.

Not trying to be a smart a$$... it's just that NO ONE, in this area at least, is making enough money to let themselves get that stressed or frustrated... it just isn't worth it.

I play for a few reasons ... in descending order :
1) the joy of playing
2) the thrill of entertaining a crowd
3) the camaraderie of playing with a great bunch of guys (or gals)
4) to make a few bucks

If we lose these things then we become just guys working a job... and we do that already.

It's easy to forget sometimes that we are damn lucky to have a talent that people will come out to see, and spend what precious little time they have to enjoy some fun WATCHING US do what we love to do.
Enjoying that time with us.

Musicians are sometimes flawed people, sometimes broke people, but I've been doing this in one way or another for a long time, and I know there will be A LOT of GOOD people ,banging out some tunes, on a stage, in a bar, in Cleveland, this weekend.

I e-mailed the Curtis Bros. a while back and never heard anything about an audition. I've played with the Chrome Plated Cowboys and Laredo and also with 21 South which was a high energy band such as the Curtis Bros. so I'm no slouch. Maybe they are hoping Phil Vassar reads the Cleveland Backpage.

Cincinnati is going to to stomp the Browns on Sunday. No surprise there. Browns 0-4
Hope the Curtis Bros find the right player, sounds like keyken has been around, maybe they knew him already and just felt he was not the right player.
Wheres the info on the other big change in band members that is taking place? Thought for sure the webs would have been on top of that one.

The truth of the matter is; the Cleveland country scene is barely on my radar.

We are less than 40 days from THEE election. This election is near the TOP of my personal priority list.

Who has been ACE'd this month or "could NOT pass on a more lucurative opportunity" is NOT.

It's NOT to say that I am NOT curious...

Looks like it's Laredo...my first quess. LOL!

A name (Steve Hyton) is missing in the offical "line-up". The most recent, ridiculous group photo, has been removed from the front page of the Laredo website.

Bigger then that news. It's not one you will find on a website,
guess you are really not in the know.

Thank you,Darlin'. That was sweet!

Boo--Don't bet on it.

Legacy Village was great as always. Lots of people and no rain!

It was my pleasure to fill in with Roadhouse last night. They are mighty nice folks. It was also the shortest ride home in 45 years of giggin' out! A block and a half!

Brigitte Bardot is 74 today.

Ben E. King is 70. Now is that weird?

Moon Unit Zappa is 41.

Young Jeezy is 31.

Hilary Duff is 21.

1941 - Major League Baseball: Ted Williams of the Boston Red Sox finishes the season with a batting average of .406. He is the latest major league player to have a batting average of .400 or better.

OK...our PC has crashed, crashed, and is at the PC hospital, on life support. The next few hours are critical for it's survival.

Posting will be hit and miss.

OHHHHHHHHH...and the big news.
A drummer that should have been retired, years ago, is gonna.

I was correct, when I looked to Laredo first! I hear, it's a former Lawless member, CONSIDERING the opportunity. It's NOT a done deal.
