So far...so good!
Last year, on New Year's Day we learned of the death of a dear friend...

I was working on some tunes to play with Frank when we received the news of his passing. He was the best I ever worked with on a regular basis. He made playing with Laredo a pleasure.

Kentucky Thunder is @ Dirty Cowboys this weekend.

The Curtis Brothers will be @ Lamplighter on Saturday.

ACE's/Mentor says Laredo will be there on Saturday.
The Laredo website clearly states they are purposefully OFF until January 18th.

ACE's/Brooklyn does NOT update their website...they are STILL talking about New Year's Eve tickets.

Mr. Webster returns to school, his vacation is OVER. LOL!

Kinda in a rush this morning. Meetings, here, there and everywhere. I think I will trek in to and out of 6 counties today.

Anyway...I had a dream about JDg, woke me up at 3:40. I killed him.
Told him the truth, and he fell right over.

Thanks for the invite to Dirty Cowboys.
NOT sure what we have going on. Perhaps, weather permitting.

Obama WINS Iowa!

A whopping majority of our COUNTRY bands are OFF tonight.

Kentucky Thunder is @ Dirty Cowboys.

Did anyone see the ACE's/Brooklyn ad in SCENE?
Talk about NOT framing your message!?!
It said FORMERLY ACE's Bar and Grill, but didn't say what it is NOW.
The ad directs folks to the obsolete ACE's/Brooklyn website, that is STILL peddling New Year's Eve tickets.
To a causal observer it would NOT be difficult to presume they are renaming the bar...Laredo.
In addition, the ad could be construed as COUNTRY is Wednesdays only???

I am a newcomer to this blog and I sure hope I don't say something that will ruffle anyone's feathers, because after reading several hours of comments from 2007, things can get a little ugly from time to time.
The one thing I would like to find out if possible is, considering that most of you folks are pretty savvy about things that are happening on the local Country Music Scene, how is it that a New Country Band that has been playing and singing all over Northeast Ohio for the last year can enter a Fox 8 Local Band Contest against 147 other Local Bands and win it, and the only mention they get is a copied posting of who won, when the winner was announced on November 22. (Many of the bands that they were running against are discussed in this blog on a daily basis.)It seems like a pretty nice feature of this blog to be able to see what band is at what venue on any given weekend. In addition the same band received a nice Award from Cleveland Scene Magazine this year that at least one of the regulars snickered at.
For anyone that is interested, John Todd and Shameless Country will be appearing again on Fox 8 Morning Show this Friday-Jan.11th (7:30 to 9:00am). Jan 12th they will be at the New ACES in North Ridgeville.

Congrats to Shameless. The Fox 8 gig is a feather in your cap. Is it your second time?

Please feel free to comment on anything you want. This a truly free and open forum. Just be ready!

OH me, OH my...a new guest, where are my manners? KNEE-DEEP in Blue, is my excuse.

Welcome SHAMELESS...glad ya found your way to THEE Cleveland Country Blog.

The others are STILL licking their wounds after their LOST to SHAMELESS and minimizing what a WIN means.

Can ya tell folks how SHAMELESS learned of the FOX 8 contest?
BTW; Lawless, spun their fall in this contest the earliest...remind me to tell ya the story.

If it's any consolation, I rarely mention Barry Hughes.
Remember him, the one that has LAWLESS scrambling for a NEW plan.

The music community is TORN over tribute bands. Ya may have opened a Pandora's box?

Tribute band is an undesirable label just below cover band/bar band.

For ME...SHAMELESS is an acquired taste and lasts for about an hour.
Garthies LOVE ya.

John Todd and Shameless Country will be appearing again on Fox 8 Morning Show this Friday-Jan.11th,
(7:30 to 9:00am).
Jan 12th they will be at the New ACES in North Ridgeville.

8:58 PM
Blogger Opie said...

First let me say that I have never heard of Barry Hughes. I heard his "MySpace" Songs. (good)
I just have to wonder??? Does Barry Hughes "play out"? I think if you don't even have somewhat of a gig schedule, whats the point of putting your self in a "PUBLIC CONTEST" If you don't perform OUT IT THE PUBLIC!?!?!
Now That being said....
I have heard the runner up(T.R&R)
and they are GREAT!
I dont know!!! WHATEVER!!
Hey Mr. Webster
If all you did was play your music in a studio, and did'nt play music out, How long do you think it would take before you got bored?
FOR ME....
I love the crowd, the "tightness" of the band! Slamin' Drums! And of course THUMPIN' BASS!!!! Yeah Baby!!
Thats just my 2cents.

Mr. & Mrs. Webster:

Thank you both for your responses to my questions.

First, I should tell everyone that doesn't already know, the New ACES in North Ridgeville will not be ready for the January 12th show that I mentioned in my earlier post. That show has been cancelled.

I want to also make it clear that I am not a band member, just one of their biggest fans.

To answer Mr.'s question: Friday will be the bands second appearance on The Morning Show. The producer from the show called after the winners were announced in November and asked if the band would like to come again. They gladly accepted. Their first appearance was in April of 2006.

The band did not know about the FOX 8 Contest until someone received a bulletin from Lawless Band asking for votes to keep them in 1st Place. Shameless figured they had nothing to lose by entering the contest and everything to gain by the exposure they might receive. Once they got into 4th place and showed up in the ratings, everyone involved worked just a little harder to move them up and then see if they could hold on. As luck would have it, and a whole lot of e-mails later, we won.

Another thing that all of the other band members and friends that read and post to this blog should know is that Shameless's intent when starting up a year or so ago was to NEVER be a competitor of the Country Music Bands that ALL work very hard making a living going from club to club, sometimes 3 and 4 nights a week.
Shameless' primary objective is and always was to perform in a theater type atmosphere where people buy their ticket to see a 1 or 2 hour Garth Brooks Show. Everyone goes home happy.
Mrs. Webster a lot of people would agree with you that an hour or so of Garth Brooks Songs is more than enough. The band members agree as well. but when they do take on a gig at one of the bars, the guy that is paying them demands 3 or 4 hours of entertainment.
In closing, the band will make it's debut out at Jewel's Dance Hall on Feb 2nd, and arrangements have been made with a group of guys that do a special "Hat Dance" to come and do their thing to the Baton Rouge song.
If any of the band members knew I was on this blog they would come over and break my computer.

Good Lord...we have power, cable and Internet. I am very very pleased with the efficiency of my small town electric company.

Don't know what we are going to do about the 100 foot tree laying across our front yard.
How thankful we are, the mighty pine did not fall on the house, or Mr. Webster's car, or the neighbor's car/house.

We did NOT hear the tree fall @ 3:24 this morning.
The security system went off. Kinda scary at first, but realized it was a power failure.

Of course...the flashlights were NOT where they are supposed to be, and the battery back-up for the clock was NOT working.

Mr. Webster's patience is tested again. He was divvying up the hot water and giving instructions on NOT opening the refrigerator.

Fortunately, we have a bazillion candles.
We fumbled for a lighter, then to the utility room for a 9V for the clock.

"Can we go back to bed", I asked.
"In a minute", he said, as he peered out the front window to investigate how widespread the power failure was.

"OMG" and choice four letter words were uttered along with "our pine tree is DOWN".
The tree is at least 60 years old. A five foot span, and three feet depth of earth came up with it.

Electrical lines were flailing in the wind.
The telephone poll across the way was snapped in half.
The street lamp was dangling over the neighbor's driveway.
Another tree was splintered with huge limbs all over the sidewalk.

We called the police at 3:47 AM. The street department, and electric company were here before five.

I schlepped to the corner store for generic java at eight.
The electric was restored before nine. AMEN!

As far as I know, ACE's/Brooklyn is moving forward with it's Wednesday night country.
Tonight: Laredo

All kinds of rumours are flying regarding the N. Ridgeville location. The most recent to land in my mailbox is a COMEDY CLUB.

ACE's/Mentor is barely making it week to week. Don't care what ya have been told. This location is struggling to survive.

11:33 AM
Blogger Mrs. Webster said...

SO...what does one do when there is a mammoth tree laying in the front yard.

First and foremost...make nice with the Mayor's office.

Easy enough...most of their kids, my kids played baseball together.
For now, I have a reprieve from violating any small town ordinances.

The city came out and placed orange cones on the sidewalk.
NOT exactly sure what the point was...

The small town weekly newspaper has been here to take photos.

Getting estimates is going to be all day affair.

Not sure how things went last night, but I just heard that ACES /Brooklyn booked Shameless for this Saturday Night Jan.12 from 10:00pm to 1:00am.

Blogger Molly said...

Wonder why only 3 hours on a Saturday night though. Wish I could make it but have another obligation. Great band!

6:09 PM
Blogger ShamelessFan said...

Molly - regarding the 3 hours, I think I can speak for most of the bands that have to negotiate with the owners about how long they will play and how much they will get paid. They would all like to play for an hour and a half if they could. The club owners however, would like to see them to play for 4 or 5 hours. I don't see how anyone could blame either one of them.

Mrs. Webster - The latest I have heard about ACES/Brooklyn is that last night with Laredo went well. For all your Country Music Friends that support Live Music Venues, future Wednesdays will be evenly distributed between 4 Country Bands - Laredo, Curtis Brothers, Tony Rio and Relentless, and Lawless. I believe anyone that would ask the new owners of Aces Brooklyn, they would be told that, that is the plan for now.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM CHRIS HIGBEE OF THE POVERTYNECK HILLBILLIES:
"After seven years of extensive performing in support of our albums and fans, we have decided to take a break of indefinite length," says Chris Higbee, founding member of the PovertyNeck Hillbillies (PNH). "It has been a pleasure to write, record, and perform for you through the years and I'd like to heartily thank you for your invaluable contribution to our success."

"I had a passion and a vision to form the PovertyNeck Hillbillies and each of us were dedicated to the success of PNH. Life on the road, as a member of a band, requires a lot of continued personal sacrifice and perseverance. At this time, Abby, Jeff, Junior and Dave have chosen to stop performing with the band. As with the impending end of any relationship, hurt feelings and frustration may prompt negative statements, rumors or speculation."

"As the owner of the PNH, I want our fans to know that I have managed the band with honesty and integrity - - it has truly been my life’s work. I will be reevaluating the level of commitment required for individuals to continue in the band and will let our fans know once the future of PNH is determined. The make-up of the band may change; but it is my intention for the PovertyNeck Hillbillies to continue performing and entertaining our fans in the future. Thank you for your patience and support during this time of transition."

American Idol and the presidential primaries...what is a GEEK to do?

A NEW thread has been started for American Idol.

Mr. Webster reminded me last night that I was remiss in NOT mentioning the ladies room @ Dirty Cowboys.

On CNN last night was I half asleep or did it truly say that Mrs. Clinton won and the next highest vote was for "uncommitted"?

Obama who? The people would rather be uncommitted than actually vote for another candidate? OH...except Kucinich who got 4% of the vote?

Maybe I was dreaming....

Don't have time for much this morning. I slept an extra hour!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Foot.

Kinda curious about nobeerhere??? Has she finished lambasting herself and during this lambasting has she learned why folks in Michigan voted uncommitted, and/or why Obama was NOT on the ballot?

NOT sure what is motivating her posts.
ME...I take NOTHING at face value.
So I suspect, it's more of a cat/mouse over the presidential primaries.

My intention was to just ask a question, no more, no less. I do know why he was not on the ballot, I do know why people voted uncommitted, and it all makes sense to me...NOW.

My question to you and others, how do you feel about all of the talk that Obama is a Muslim? I have received the "rumor-mill" e-mail about him a half a dozen times and have done my research into it. What do you think? Possibly a stunt by those who feel he is too close to winning?

Molly, obviously you have never had someone close to you commit suicide. It is easy to be on the outside looking in and say "he should have gotten help" "He was rich and famous why kill himself" "He had so much to live for". Unfortunately we will never truly know why he did it, or for that matter why hundreds or even thousands of teenagers, twenty-somethings, baby boomers or golden-agers feel the need to end their lives every day.

I just think it is harsh to call him a coward when you have no clue what truly was going on in the man's life.

10:28 PM
Blogger Molly said...

Nobeer, you're correct in that I've never had anyone close to me commit suicide. If I did, I'd consider them a coward as well. Committing suicide is the easy way out. Seeking help is more difficult and strong people ask for it. Of course, we don't if it was a suicide as yet but I also believe there is no such thing as an "accidental overdose". If you can read the instructions on the bottle & you take too much of anything, it ain't no accident! (Poor grammar intended)

Suicide sucks, and is lame. Especially lame, when you have millions of dollars to pay for treatment.

John from Lawless blogged on his personal MySpace...he'd rather retire than continue in the club scene, so they are cutting back with the blessings of the band mates.

NOT so sure the band mates blessed an "acoustic show". Ya know gigs without the rest of the band.

Actually, I think you all are sad and need help...so opinionated and unfeeling. Willing to pass judgment on people you do not know. If someone came on this site and said that their 28 year old brother, son, nephew, husband, boyfriend or neighbor committed suicide would you all call the dead person a coward???? Think about it a minute, because if you wouldn't, you are ALL hypocrites. And there is no excuse just because Heath Ledger was rich and famous...he was someones father, boyfriend, nephew, grandson, son and neighbor. Would you tell his mother he was a coward, or his son for that matter?

Simon, you think I need help? Take a look at yourself for once.

12:43 AM
Blogger nobeerhere said...

PS Molly....don't believe I actually "WISH"ed that someone you knew would commit suicide...reread the post.

And even if I did, why would you care? They are a coward for not getting help...right?

12:50 AM
Blogger Molly said...

Nobeer, it's obvious you had someone close to you commit suicide. I'm truly sorry for your loss. I would be truly sorry for anyone's loss in that respect. Had they been a strong person and sought help, or had someone step up and attempt to help them, perhaps they would still be alive. Again, only the weak give up. And I never said I'd actually tell a grieving loved one that their family member or friend was a coward. But I'd be thinking it. Loss of life is always a shame. People get help for cancer and other illnesses. Sometimes it doesn't work and they have no control on death. Committing suicide rather than getting help that is needed is just giving up and taking the easy way out.

Well, I think that subject has been exhausted. Soooo sorry I brought it up.
