Happy 4th of July.
Today is Independence Day.

Curiously, Websterscountry was inspired from several angles. The dictionary was shelved just above eye level at my computer station. The light went off in my head. More about that later.

A book of words with definitions, and a user of the world wide web "webster"...and of course my fascination with the ever changing Cleveland country music scene.

What does Webster say?
The dictionary, that is...

Independence Day: A civil holiday for the celebration of national independence and commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

The struggle to break free from colonial status inspired the Declaration of Independence and provided the basis of the US Constitution and Charters of Freedom.

Charters of Freedom brought us the Bill of Rights. First and foremost is the freedom of unabridged speech.

Today is a celebration of freedoms. My personal favorite is "freedom of speech" Freedom to speak/write/web/post/blog without censorship, editing or moderating.

This blog is a direct result of posts being moderated and then rejected or removed. Our liberties and privileges we celebrate today were born from a voice of dissent.

Your voice and words are welcome.
Come blog with me!!

An interesting question was posed to me last night. My friends are always fascinated by my dabbling in country music. It went something like this...

How many country "stars" have been found in Cleveland...Cleveland, Ohio that is?

My answer was NONE. I didn't even bother to google it today.

A blonde decides to try horseback riding, even though she has had no lessons, nor prior experience. She mounts the horse unassisted, and the horse immediately springs into motion. It gallops along at a steady and rhythmic pace, but the blonde begins to slide from the saddle.

In terror, she grabs for the horse's mane, but cannot seem to get a firm grip. She tries to throw her arms around the horse's neck, but she slides down the horse's side anyway. The horse gallops along, seemingly impervious to its slipping rider.

Finally, giving up her frail grip, the blonde attempts to leap a way from the horse and throw herself to safety.

Unfortunately, her foot has become entangled in the stirrup; she is now at the mercy of the horse's pounding hooves as her head is struck against the ground over and over.

As her head is battered against the ground, she is mere moments away from unconsciousness when to her great fortune..................

Frank, the Walmart greeter, sees her dilemma and unplugs the horse.

JDg AKA Hardy HAS claimed to have introduced me to country music.

Ya see...every once in awhile JDg starts his own blog and posts outrageous claims.
Ummm, then deletes it.

Our relationship is NOW irrevocably broken, after I posted I didn't care for one of his originals.

Here is an excerpt of his response...

Now she claims to love "country" (as in music). I brought her to country music. I brought her to the love of her life. I MADE her blog and that's the thanks I get.

Listen honey, I know you'll read this, so let's cut to the chase.....
Whomever the hell you THINK you are, you're not! You and your 10 consistent readers have your fun. I will never address you again in a public or private manner. This is the last time anything that pertains to you will leave my mouth or fingertips. You will NEVER and let me reiterate, NEVER have any affect on my career and where it may or may not head.

Keyboard/Guitar Needed for Working Country Band
posted: July 15, 2008, 08:45 PM

Pro keys needed on a fill in basis (possibly permanent) for working country rock cover band. Vocal ability very helpful and ability to play another instrument (guitar, fiddle, steel, mandolin, harmonica, etc) a plus but not required. We have gigs booked and need someone to help during a “band transition phase” for the next month or two. This may possibly lead to a permanent position but for now we’re in need of at least your temporary help.

We are professional “weekend warriors” that generally play 2-6 days a month on weekend nights with quality bookings through New Years Eve. We play a good mix of modern top 40 country, line dance, and country rock.

We are a pro-level Northeast, Ohio band that loves to have fun on stage and really takes our music seriously. We generally play in the Akron, Canton, Salem, Lisbon, Ashtabula, and occasionally in Western PA, WV area so bear that in mind if driving is an issue. Age unimportant but must be dedicated w/professional attitude and have good equipment and stage experience. We’re not looking to change the world or go on tour or anything but we love to play as much as we can. We have full PA and practice space. No druggies or boozers or ego trips. This is a serious band so please, serious inquiries only. Must be dedicated! Visit www.citybillys.com for band info, song list, and partial schedule. Send email to info@citybillys.com or call Paul at 330-332-9644

Serious Modern Country seeking Vocalist w/ Instrument Ability

Serious Modern Country seeking Vocalist w/ Instrument Ability.

The group is seeking a replacement vocalist, much preferred with instrument ability.
This is a very legitimate opportunity for the right person to join an established and ready to perform band.
Sound System and Lighting is provided with a full time Front of House sound engineer.
On staff graphic artist, website designer, photographer and marketing professional.

Secure, nice, non reflective studio rehearsal area.
The remaining four performers are very experienced, friendly, know their craft, have a responsible and serious approach, and three of these are excellent lead or backing vocalists. We do stress and emphasize the vocal presentation.

We desire a vocalist with at least the following characteristics:

Strong vocal ability with tenor range.
Reliability, availability and commitment.
No over the top ego or emotional baggage, including your significant other.
No particular age requirement, but you MUST perform like a complete professional.
Prefer instrumental ability, but would possibly consider vocalist only, if the right fit were to be found.
Able to work with others as a team to achieve a common goal.
Talent and ability to participate with creative process towards quality original material.
Confidence, professional appearance and sense of humor is important.
Enjoy what you do.

The group will be fully competitive in the Modern Country genre.
Seeking to perform approximately 4 to 6 show dates per month.
No particular financial investment required, other than personal gear.
Rehearsals are held in the Orrville area.

Please initially respond with email that gives an overview of your experiences, instrument(s) played, bio, preferences, likes, dislikes, where you live, basic weekly schedule and any other pertinent information. Also include a follow up contact phone number.

The absence of Don was HUGE! Sless cannot pull it off SOLO. Not today...not ever!

Hardy needs to re-think that perfect pitch concept he so avidly peddles. I am NOT just taking about Sless.

JDg's voice was sooooooo pitchy, sqeaky at times. There is NOT a whole lot of country in that voice, other than the twang he forces through his nasal passages.

I don't have an opinion one way or another about bare feet.

If I were the drummer for Lawless. I would like to be in the band photo.
They photoshopped one OUT...certainly they have the technology to pop Danny in.

If there is anyone left in Ohio that hasn't heard the "drama" and "horror" regarding Heartland, they have been living under a rock. If they have heard and still sign-on...

We are bout ready to embark on another adventure. Returning to a "favorite place" for rest and relaxation...before Mr. Webster has to go back to school! I laugh, he doesn't.

We have the opportunity to see George Jones while in TN. Ya know...real country!

Just for the record, I personally would NOT engage in a grammar throw down with Mr. Webster.

His errors are almost always typos. He is typing challenged. When it comes to grammar, spelling and conjugated sentences...he's pretty hard to beat.

Good Luck!
